今回はお見舞いに遠出をすることになり

こんな遠くに来ています。

I am here in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture.

というのも、私の妹のご亭主の体調が悪くなり、そのお見舞いにここまで来ているのです。自宅を朝7:30に出発して、安城に到着したのがちょうど昼の12時。

This is because my sister’s husband is fighting leukemia, and we are here to visit him. We left our home at 7:30 in the morning and arrived at Anjo at 12:00 in the afternoon.

約束の時間までには1時間ほどあったので、事前に調べておいたワンコと一緒に入れるカフェ「Chou & Cream」でランチすることに。

We had about an hour before our appointment, so we decided to have lunch at Chou & Cream, a café that allows dogs, which we had checked out beforehand.

店内に入ると壁の棚にお酒の瓶がズラリと並んでいて所謂ドッグカフェとは様相が違う。店主が言うには、夜はワンコ連れで飲みに来る人がけっこういるのだそう。

When we entered the store, there were many bottles of alcohol lined up on the shelves on the wall, which was different from a dog café. The owner told me that there are many people who come here at night with their dogs for a drink.

ワンコ用の食事メニューもあったので、こなつもここで軽く食事にしました。

There was also a food menu for dogs, so Konatsu had a light meal here.

このあと妹の家に行きましたが、ご亭主は眠っていたので顔を見るだけのお見舞いになりました。奇跡的に回復してくれると良いのですが。。。

After this, we went to my sister’s house, but her husband was asleep, so we could only see him. I hope he will recover miraculously.

左が妹、右が二女、中央が孫。こなつはビビりながらもお手をしていましたよ。

My sister on the left, her second daughter on the right, and her grandson in the middle. Konatsu was scared, but she was doing “paw” .

ここは帰る途中の浜名湖SA。

This is the Hamanako service area on the Tomei highway on the way home.

ここには犬を連れて歩ける眺めの良い広い公園があります。なかなかいい所でした。この日は鎌倉まで帰るのはちょっと大変なのでこの近辺で泊まることにしたのですが、いつもの楽しい旅行とは目的が違うので、取り敢えず寝れればいいというつもりで宿を探しました。その結果､､､

There is a large park here with a nice view where you can take your dog for a walk. It was quite a nice place. It was a bit difficult to go back to Kamakura that day, so we decided to stay in the area. Since our purpose was different from the usual fun trip, we looked for a place to stay, hoping to get some sleep. As a result…

「はたごや袋井店」にしました。季節により料金は変動しますが、今回私たちは1部屋税込み9,900円。祝日の前日ということを考えればこれなら安い！

We decided to stay at Hatagoya Fukuroi. The price varies depending on the season, but this time we paid 9,900 yen per room, including tax. Considering it was the day before a national holiday, this was reasonable!

アメリカ映画によく出てくるモーテルみたいなものですね。

It’s like the motels that often appear in American movies.

キングサイズのベッドが2つに、バストイレ他、必要なものは大体揃っていてなかなか快適でした。全国に支店がかなり沢山あるし、これなら今後も使ってもいいなと思える内容でした。

It was quite comfortable, with two king-sized beds, a bathroom, and most of the other necessities. There are quite a few branches all over the country, and this was something I would be happy to use in the future.

そして翌日。せっかく来たことのない土地に来たからには何かそこの美味しいものを買って帰りたいと思い、ネットで検索して「とれたて食楽部」という地場野菜･鮮魚を売っている店に行ってみました。

And the next day. I searched on the Internet and went to a store called “Toretate Shokurakubu” that sold local vegetables and fresh fish.

道の駅みたいな感じです。

It’s like a roadside station.

安いし新鮮！　たくさん買い込んできました。

Cheap and fresh!　we bought a lot .

帰りは新東名の駿河湾沼津で休憩。

On the way back, we took a break at Suruga Bay Numazu SA on the New Tomei.

ドッグランに行ったらお友達ができました。ビーグル犬のジョン君、この子も保護犬。

We went to a dog run and made a friend. John, a beagle dog, is also a shelter dog.

こなつにとってはあまり楽しい二日間では無かったかもしれないけれど、無事お見舞いを済ませてきました。

It may not have been a very fun two days for Konatsu, but we made it through the visit.

鎌倉広町緑地を歩く

今日はこなつママの美容院の日なので七里ヶ浜まで送って、終わるまでの約1時間半をこなつと歩くことにした。実は1週間ほど前にスマホに歩数計のアプリを入れたのですが、まだ最高でも8,000歩/日くらい。なので運動を兼ねて歩こうというわけ。

Today is my wife’s day to go to the hair salon, so I dropped her off at Shichirigahama and decided to walk around Kamakura-Hiromachi Forest with Konatsu for about an hour and a half until she was done. I actually installed a pedometer app on my phone about a week ago, but I’m still up to about 8,000 steps/day. So, I decided to walk for exercise as well.

鎌倉広町緑地は市内で一番規模の大きな森で総面積は48ヘクタールだそうな。

Kamakura Hiromachi Forest is the largest forest in the city, with a total area of 48 hectares.
(48 hectares is equivalent to 118 acres)

ではいつもの広場の駐車場に車を置いて、さあ出発！　後ろの森が広町緑地の東端だ。

So we left the car in the parking lot of the usual plaza, and off we went!　The forest behind us is the eastern edge of the Hiromachi Forest.

浄化センター入り口から森に入るとすぐに急坂を上る。

As soon as we entered the forest from the entrance of the purification center, we went up a steep slope.

動物の匂いがするのだろうか？こなつはあちこちでこうして匂いを嗅いでいる。

Does it smell like an animal? Konatsu is sniffing here and there like this.

坂を上りきるとこんな道になるが、それでもアップダウンが激しい。昨日の雨で道がぬかるんでいるから下り坂では要注意だ。

After climbing up the hill, we came to this road, but it was still very up and down. The road was muddy from yesterday’s rain, so we had to be careful on the descents.

しばらく歩いていると､､､

After walking for a while…

木に番号を書いて透明なシートが貼り付けられていた。なんだろう？

There was a transparent sheet attached to the tree with a number written on it. What is it?

どうやらこういう事らしい。後で調べてみたら、ここ数年、神奈川県内でナラ枯れ病が確認され、コナラやシイ・カシの木が枯れるという被害が広がっているらしい。カシナガという小さな虫が媒介して菌が樹木の内部に持ち込まれるそうです。その対策として薬を注入したり、シートを巻いたりしているとのこと。

Apparently, this is what happened. I later found out that oak wilt has been confirmed in Kanagawa Prefecture in the past few years, causing widespread damage to Quercus serrata and Shii oak trees. It is said that the fungus is brought inside the trees by a small insect called “kashinaga”. As a countermeasure, they are injecting medicine into the trees and wrapping sheets around them.

その被害に遭った木はこうなってしまうんだって。知らなかった。

This is what happens to the trees that are damaged. I didn’t know that.

再び散歩に戻ります。我々は⑪の入り口から入り、現在⑬に来ています。

Back to the walk again. We entered through entrance ⑪ and are now at ⑬.

相模湾が見渡せ、その向こうに見えるのは三浦半島です。この後、七里ヶ浜入り口まで歩いて森を出て、外周コースを歩いて出発地点に戻るつもり。

From here, we could see Sagami Bay and beyond that, the Miura Peninsula. After this, I plan to walk to the entrance of ⑭Shichirigahama, leave the forest, and walk the outer course back to the starting point.

ここが七里ヶ浜出口。さっきの入り口からの距離は2kmちょっとくらいかな。

This is the Shichirigahama exit. The distance from the entrance is about 2km.

出るとすぐに住宅街

As soon as we got out, it was a residential area.

ここからはいつも車で通っている道を下って行きます。

From here, we went down the same road we always drive on.

その途中の「雨乞の池」　それは、鎌倉時代の干ばつに苦しんだ年に日蓮上人がここでお経を唱え、大雨が降ったという伝説の地。

On the way, there is a pond called “A pond begging for rain.”.　There is a legend that during the Kamakura period (1185-1333), when the area was suffering from a drought, Saint Nichiren chanted a sutra here and it rained heavily.

下り坂が続くからこなつの足取りも軽いね。

Konatsu’s footsteps were light as she continued downhill.

At the end of the road, the descent ends.

こなつもやれやれという顔だ。

Konatsu also looked tired.

ようやく出発地点の浄化センターが見えてきた。

At last, we could see the purification center where we started.

よく歩いたなあ､､､と歩数計を見てみると

When I looked at my pedometer, I realized that I had walked a lot…..

がぁ～ん。。。。　たったの4800歩しか歩いてない
でもまあ山道を登ったり下ったりだから歩数以上の運動量だ！と自己満足(笑)

No way ! I only walked 4,800 steps.
But well, I went up and down the mountain path, so I got more exercise than my steps! I can’t help but feel satisfied with myself lol

帰り道、海がキレイ。

On the way back, the ocean was beautiful.

4日目の続き

白馬から軽井沢に戻る途中「道の駅・中条」というのを見つけ、おそらくこの先この道を通ることはないかもしれないと思い、ここに寄ることにした。

Continuation of Day 4
On the way back to Karuizawa from Hakuba, I found a roadside station called “Nakajo”. I decided to stop here, thinking that I probably wouldn’t be passing this way in the future.

すると、こんな怪しげなビールが目に入ってきた。長野善光寺＝七味唐辛子だから分からないでもない。

Then I saw this suspicious beer. Nagano Zenkoji = Shichimi Pepper, so it’s not hard to understand.　( Shichimi pepper is a mixture of red pepper and other spices. )

老舗店の唐辛子と地ビールがコラボして出来たビールで、ピリッとした風味が絶妙と書かれていました。物は試しというか、好奇の目みたいな感じで1缶買ってみた。

The beer was a collaboration between shichimi peppers from a long-established restaurant and a local beer, and it was described as having an exquisite tangy flavor. I bought one can, just to try things out, or like a curious eye.

軽井沢に戻り、この日は東急ハーベストクラブ旧軽井沢にチェックイン。

Returning to Karuizawa, we checked in at the Tokyu Harvest Club Karuizawa for the day.

この時こなつは何かいつもと違うなあという雰囲気を感じ取っているようです。君はなかなか鋭い！　というのも、この日の夜はイタリアンの人気店「エンボカ」を旅行に来る前から予約してあり、こなつは2時間ほどお留守番なのです。

At this time, Konatsu seems to sense that there is something different about the atmosphere. “You are quite perceptive!”　Because we had a reservation at a popular Italian restaurant called “Emboca” for dinner, and Konatsu had to stay at the room for about two hours.

「ホントにアタシを置いて行くんですか？」と恨めし気な顔。ゴメンネ、今日はこなつを連れて入れないレストランなんだよね。。。（夏にはペットOKのテラス席があるようです）

“Are you really going to leave me?” she said with a grudging look on her face. I’m sorry, but I can’t take Konatsu to this restaurant today.
(They have a terrace where pets are allowed in summer.)

そういう訳で、こなつは車の中でお留守番。我々は歩いてお店に向かいます。

So, leaving Konatsu behind, we walked to the restaurant.

午後6時半ですが、だぁ～れも歩いてません。人の姿は皆無です。

It’s 6:30 p.m., and no one is walking around. There are no people in sight.

歩くこと6～7分でお店に到着。

After a six to seven minute walk, we arrived at Emboca.

平日だけど結構お客さんは多かった。

It was a weekday, but the restaurant was quite crowded.

ドリンクメニューを見るとベルギービールが50銘柄くらいあり、ペールエール好きにはたまらない品揃え。ゴールデンエールのDuvelでスタート。ホップの香り、するする！旨い。

Looking at the drink menu, there are about 50 Belgian beers on offer, which is a great selection for pale ale lovers. We started with Duvel, a golden ale. The smell of hops! It’s delicious.

まず最初に注文した料理は

The first dish we ordered was…

薪窯焼きの野菜盛り合わせ。岩塩orソースで頂きます。

Assorted vegetables baked in a wood-fired oven. Served with rock salt or sauce.

この日はカウンター席を予約したので、目の前で調理されるところを見れるんです。
2皿目は、スモークした魚介・肉・チーズの盛り合わせ。

On this day, we reserved a counter seat so we could watch the food being prepared in front of us. The second dish was an assortment of smoked seafood, meat, and cheese.

どれもこれもとても美味しい！

It’s all so good!

ここに来たらピザは外せない。マルゲリータとレンコンのハーフ＆ハーフ

The pizza here is outstandingly delicious. That is why I ordered the Margherita and lotus root half and half.

２杯目のビールはWestmalleダブル。フルーティだけど心地良い苦みもあって、旨い！

The second beer was a Westmalle Double. Fruity, but with a pleasant bitterness, good!

今日はお腹を空かせてきたからどんどん入る(笑)。イベリコとパルマの生ハム。

I’ve been hungry today, so I’m going to eat more and more (lol). Iberian and Parma cured ham.

最後は赤ワインにしたけど、それまでのビールが強烈に美味しかったからワインの味はあんまり記憶に残っていないのが正直なところ。

We ended up with red wine, but to be honest, I don’t remember much about the taste of the wine because the beer up to that point had been so intensely delicious.

最後は季節の果物でつくるデザートピザ。これもめっちゃ美味しかった。

The final dish was a dessert pizza made with seasonal fruits. This was also very delicious.

絶対にまた来たいと思わせてくれるレストランでした。

It was definitely a restaurant that made me want to come back.

美味しいものをたくさん食べた帰り道は寒さなんて気にならない。今回は3泊4日の軽井沢でしたが楽しいことが盛り沢山で、良い休暇でした。

We ate a lot of good food and didn’t mind the cold on the way hotel. This time we stayed in Karuizawa for four days and three nights, it was a good vacation with lots of fun.

翌日、後ろ髪を引かれる思いで峠を越えて帰り道を行きます。

The next day, we will go back over the pass.

軽井沢3日目はちょっと遠くまで

朝起きて外に出てみると、昨夜の雪が積もっていて私の車はこんな状態だった。その時、レジーナのスタッフの方は電動除雪機を使って雪かきしていたが、そんな便利なものがあるんだと初めて知りました。

Day 3
When I woke up in the morning and went outside, I found that my car was like this because of last night’s snow pile. At that time, the staff of Regina was using an electric snowblower to shovel the snow, and it was the first time I learned that there was such a convenient thing.

私の車は手作業で雪を払い、何とか動かせる状態になった。前日あまり動き回らずに鋭気を養ったので今日は早めにチェックアウトして、白馬まで行くことにした。

I cleared the snow off my car by hand and managed to get it running. Since we hadn’t moved around much the day before, we decided to check out early and go to Hakuba.

レジーナでの最後の食事を済ませ、白馬に向かって出発です！

After our last breakfast in Regina, we’re off to Hakuba!

R18号線を西へ向かいます。　　　Head west on the R18.

小諸ICで上信越道に入り長野に向かいますが、ゲートの手前で冬用タイヤの装着を確認してました。

We entered the Joshinetsu Expressway at the Komoro Interchange and headed for Nagano.

長野ICから1時間、北アルプスが見えてきた。目的地はもうすぐそこだ。

One hour after the Nagano IC, the Northern Alps came into view. Our destination was almost there.

白馬に到着、絶景だね。今日白馬に来ようと思った訳は、ここに20年位前から懇意にしているパン屋「モンピジョン」があるのですが、この3年間夏のセイジオザワ・フェスティバルがコロナで中止になってしまって来れなかったので、今回訪ねてみようと思ったのです。

Arriving in Hakuba, the view is spectacular. The reason why we decided to come to Hakuba today is because there is a bakery here that we have known for about 20 years, “Mont Pigeon”, but for the past three years we have not been able to come here because the summer Seigi Ozawa Festival was cancelled due to COVID-19.

ここがモンピジョン。パンは美味しいし、店内の居心地も良いし、オーナー姉妹とも話が弾むし、友人の家を訪ねたような感覚になれるんです。

This is Mont Pigeon. The bread is delicious, the store is cozy, and the owner sisters are always happy to talk. So, We feel like we’re visiting a friend’s house.

看板犬のコータ君（左・♂3歳）とシナモンちゃん（右・♀8歳）、どちらも3代目のコータとシナモンです。

The store’s signature dogs, Kohta (left, ♂ 3 years old) and Cinnamon (right, ♀ 8 years old), are both third generation Kohta and Cinnamon.

こなつも子犬の頃からここに来ているからこの場所を覚えているのだろうか、リラックスしているように見える。

Konatsu has been coming here since she was a puppy, so she probably remembers this place and seems to be relaxed.

美味しくてついつい食べ過ぎてしまいそうですが、夕飯のことも考えて私はサンドウィッチとマフィンに紅茶を一杯。

It was so good that I almost ate too much, but I thought about dinner, so I had a sandwich and a muffin and a cup of tea.

でっかいゴールデンが2頭いるとなかなかの迫力です。1時間ちょっとの短い滞在でしたが、このあと再び軽井沢に戻るので名残を惜しみつつもモンピジョンを後にしました。

It’s quite impressive to see two big golden retrievers. After a short stay of just over an hour, we left Mont Pigeon with a sense of regret as I was going back to Karuizawa.

軽井沢２日目

この日は気温が下がると天気予報で言っていたが､､､

The second day in Karuizawa. The weather forecast said the temperature would drop this day, but…

朝はこんなに冷え込んでいました。

It was so cold in the morning.

道路は完全に凍結しているけれど、それでもこなつの散歩は欠かせない。

The roads were completely frozen, but I still had to take Konatsu for a walk.

それに、こなつは雪は大好きだから尻尾振りながら歩いてました。

Konatsu loves the snow, so she walked around with her tail wagging.

散歩の後は朝ごはん。

After the walk, we had breakfast.

これがこなつの朝ごはん、牛肉のミンチボールと鶏そぼろ。美味しそうだね～！

This is Konatsu’s breakfast, minced beef balls and chicken soboro. Looks delicious!

これは私たちの朝ごはん。この日は遠出はせずにゆったり過ごすつもりだったので、朝食後は部屋のTVで北京オリンピックを見ていたのでした。

This is our breakfast. We didn’t plan to go far that day, so after breakfast, we watched the Beijing Olympics on the TV in our room.

ここは軽井沢で人気のパン屋、サワムラ。今日のランチはここで。

This is Sawamura, a popular bakery in Karuizawa. We had lunch here today.

ワンコ連れはテラス席のみOK。こんな寒い中をテラス席で犬と一緒にランチするなんて私達だけでしたが、しっかり防寒対策してるから寒さなんて気になりません。

We were the only ones to have lunch with our dogs on the terrace in such cold weather, but since we were well protected from the cold, we didn’t mind the cold.

私は軽井沢ホットドッグ＆コーヒー。この写真ではよく見えませんが、パンとソーセージの間にピクルスがたっぷり入っていて、それがとても美味しかった。

I had a Karuizawa hot dog and coffee. You can’t really see it in this picture, but there was a lot of pickle between the bread and sausage, which was very tasty.

午後はアウトレット・モールでお買物。こなつもDogdeptで洋服を1枚買いました。

In the afternoon, we went shopping at the outlet mall. Konatsu also bought a piece of clothing at Dogdept.

帰る頃になって雪が強く降り始め、天気予報のとおり大雪になりそうな感じ。。。

As we were leaving, it started to snow heavily and it looked like it was going to snow heavily as forecasted.

部屋に戻ると夕食の時間が近づいてきた。こなつはさっそくさっき買った服に着替えです。

Back in the room, dinner time was approaching. Konatsu quickly changed into the clothes she had bought.

うん、いいねえ！　さあ、これでレストランへ行きましょう！

Yeah, I like that!　Now, let’s go to the restaurant with this!

こなつは前日と同じサーモンの蒸し焼きなのでここでは写真は省略しますが、やっぱり良い食べっぷりだった。私たちの和食も美味しかったし、前日に続き満足度の高い夕食でした。。

Konatsu had the same steamed salmon as the day before, so I’ll skip the pictures here, but she was still a good eater. Our Japanese food was also delicious, and we were highly satisfied with our dinner after the previous day.

その間も雪は降り続き、明日の朝がどうなってるのか楽しみです。

In the meantime, the snow continues to fall, and I’m looking forward to seeing what tomorrow morning will bring.

レジーナリゾート旧軽井沢へ

車の後部座席にこなつが長時間乗っても疲れないようにベッドを持ち込み、居住スペースを作ります。いざ出発！

This time it is a travelogue to Karuizawa. We bring a bed into the back seat of the car to create a living space for Konatsu so that she won’t get tired after a long ride. Let’s go!

我が家から軽井沢までは途中の休憩時間を含めて約4時間､､､

The journey from our house to Karuizawa took about four hours, including breaks along the way…

群馬県に入り上信越道のSAに立ち寄ると、かなり雪があります。

When we entered Gunma Prefecture and stopped at the Joshinetsu Expressway SA, there was quite a bit of snow.

軽井沢に近づくにつれ車からの風景もこうなってきます。

The closer we got to Karuizawa, the more the scenery from the car started to look like this.

そして、レジーナリゾート旧軽井沢に到着。

Then we arrived at Regina Resort Kyu-Karuizawa.

館内には犬連れで楽しめる場所がいろいろあり、ここは昼はカフェ・夜はバーラウンジ。

There are various places in the facility that you can enjoy with your dog, including a cafe by day and a bar lounge by night.

今回の宿泊は206号室

This time we stayed in room 206.

この広さなら3人＋1頭でも余裕でOK。

With this space, there’s plenty of room for three people plus one dog.

バスルームも快適。

The bathrooms are comfortable.

ここは施設内のドッグラン。ここ数年はこなつを雪遊びに連れて行ってやれなかったので、これなら楽しめる！雪が降った直後のちょうど良いタイミングの旅行だった。

This is the dog park in the facility. I haven’t been able to take Konatsu out to play in the snow for the past few years, so this would be fun! The timing of the trip was just right, right after it snowed.

After this, it’s dinner time.

ここの日本食は美味しいと評判だから楽しみです！

The Japanese food here has a reputation for being delicious, so I’m looking forward to it!

これはこなつ用の「信州サーモンの蒸し焼き」Lサイズ(笑)　あっという間に完食でした。美味しかったんだろうね、人間でも食べれそうだもの。

This is a large size “steamed Shinshu salmon” for Konatsu (lol). It was eaten up in no time! It must have been delicious, because it looks like it could be eaten by humans.

グルメレポーターみたいなコメントは出来ないけれど、例えば左上の前菜も一つ一つが見た目以上に素晴らしく美味しい。全部にコメントしたらキリがないので書きませんが､､､

I can’t comment like a gourmet reporter, but for example, each of the appetizers in the upper left corner is even better than it looks. If I were to comment on everything, there would be no end to it, so I won’t…

その前菜と一緒に飲んだのがコレ。小布施ワイナリーだから当然ワイン、と思うでしょうが実はこれ小布施ワイナリーが作った日本酒なんです。限定品のため一人一杯ですが、キリっと辛口で前菜５品との相性もとてもいい。貴重なものを堪能できました。

This is what we drank with the appetizer. You would think that since it’s Obuse Winery, it would naturally be wine, but it’s actually sake made by Obuse Winery. It’s a limited edition, so each person can only have one glass, but it’s crisp and dry and goes very well with the five appetizers. We were able to enjoy something very precious.

更に食事もお酒も進み楽しいディナータイムでした。この日のホールスタッフの女性がたまたま以前私たちが蓼科のレジーナに行ったときにお会いした人で、嬉しい再会ができた。こういう偶然も旅の楽しみの一つかな。

It was a fun dinner time with more food and drinks. The lady who was working at the hall that day happened to be someone we had met when we went to Regina in Tateshina, so we had a nice reunion. I guess such coincidences are one of the joys of travel.

ここのレストランはテーブルごとに高いパーテーションで仕切られていて、感染対策も十分出来ていると感じます。これで一日目が終了です。

The restaurant here has high partitions separating each table, and I feel that the infection control is well done. This was the end of the first day.

大雪の予報だったけど

また雪道を運転できるのかなと少し期待したけど朝から雨。そんな中を仕事に行ったら東京都内は昼頃から雪になってきた。首都高速も大雪に備えていくつかの路線を閉鎖していたし、もしも大雪になって大渋滞すると困るので早めに仕事を切り上げて帰ってきました。

I was expecting to be able to drive on snowy roads again since heavy snow was forecasted, but it started raining in the morning. and when I went to work, it started snowing around noon in Tokyo. The Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway had closed some of its routes in preparation for the heavy snow, and I didn’t want to get stuck in traffic if it snowed heavily, so I left work early and came home.

家に帰ってきたときには丁度こなつの夕方の散歩の時間。今日はママが連れて行ってくれるらしい。
When I came home, it was just time for Konatsu’s evening walk. My wife was going to take her out today.

私も一緒に行って写真を撮ろうと思ったんだけど、外に出て試し撮りしたら雪が全く写らないので私は行くのを止めにした。

I was going to go with her to take a picture of Konatsu, but when I went outside to take a test shot, the snow didn’t show up at all, so I decided not to go.

こなつは「なんで一緒に行かないの」って顔してるけどね。

Konatsu has a “why don’t you go with me” look on her face, though.

この写真だと雪が降ってるのが分かるかな？でもこれじゃ積もりそうにないねえ｡｡｡
私は暖かい地方で育ったから雪が積もると何故か嬉しいのです。

Can you see it’s snowing in this picture? But it doesn’t look like it’s going to be all white with snow… Having grown up in a warmer climate, I’m always happy when there’s snow on the ground.

似顔絵クッキー

ご近所の犬仲間のHANAちゃんパパがワンコ達の顔が入ったクッキーを作ってきてくれました。これが何とも言えず可愛らしくてみんな大喜びでした。

The owner of HANA, a neighborhood dog friend, made cookies with the faces of the dogs on them. They were indescribably cute and everyone was so happy.

今回作ってくださったのは、こなつ・マー君・シバちゃん・故フータ君の4頭です。

This time he made four of them: Konatsu, Maron, Shiba, and the late Futa.

こなつのはフィルムがくっ付いて失敗しちゃったとの事ですが、雰囲気出てますね！

こなつは昨日動物病院に行ってシャンプーカットと歯石取りをしてきました。家に帰ってきたらこなつの身体からシャンプーの良い匂いが漂っていて、こなつも気持ち良いだろうな。

Konatsu went to the veterinary clinic yesterday for a shampoo cut and tartar removal. When I got home, I could smell the good smell of shampoo on Konatsu’s body, and I’m sure she feels great.

歯石はいつも無麻酔でやってもらうのですが、今回は4ヶ月ぶりくらいだったので「麻酔が必要なくらい歯石が沢山付着していたけど、超音波スケーラーでもこなつちゃんが大人しくしててくれたので無麻酔でできました。」と先生の弁。やれやれ、良かった良かった。

I always have Konatsu’s tartar removal done without anesthesia, but this time, since it had been about four months, the doctor said, “There was so much tartar on her teeth that she needed anesthesia, but she was able to do it without anesthesia because she was so quiet even with the ultrasonic scaler. 今日は節分

昔は節分と言えば豆まきでしたが、最近は恵方巻の方が注目されているように思えますね。

February 3rd is the day of Setsubun. It means the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

後始末が大変にならないように小袋で、鬼は～そと！、福は～うち！　を済ませて､､､

and in Japan, there is a legend that demons come at the turn of the season. , so we throw beans to get rid of them. “Damon go outside, Happiness come inside! ” And so on.

次は恵方巻を作ります。

After the bean-throwing, the next step is to make Ehomaki.

昔からの風習だし、縁起が良いという事でもあるから毎年やっている。先ずは我々二人がこれを食べ、次にこなつの分を用意します。

Ebomaki is a sushi roll like the one in the photo. On the night of Setsubun, people eat it in silence while thinking of their wishes in the direction of Eboshi. Eboshi is the direction that is considered to be the best for the year.　The two of us will eat it first, then I’ll prepare one for Konatsu.

寿司飯は砂糖とお酢が入ってるから、こなつには玉子焼きの周りに薄くご飯を巻きます。

Sushi rice has sugar and vinegar in it, so for konatsu, roll the rice thinly around the omelet.

それ、アタシのですよね？　と見つめている。

こなつの夕飯はほぼ毎日こんな感じ

最近のこなつはほぼ毎日こんなご飯を食べています。

二人の間を行ったり来たりしてようやく満足するのです。こなつにとってはこれがデザートみたいなものかもしれない。太らせないようにカロリー摂取し過ぎないよう気を付けています。

Konatsu would go back and forth between the two of us and finally be satisfied. For Konatsu, this may be like a dessert. I am careful not to take in too many calories so as not to make her fat.

まだ物足りなそうな顔してるけど、これ以上はあげません。こなつも「もうこれでお終いかな」という事は理解するようでそれ以上欲しがることもない。なかなか察しの良いコです。

She still looks like she doesn’t have enough, but we don’t give her any more. Konatsu seems to understand that this is the end, and doesn’t ask for more. She is a very perceptive dog.

昨日から今朝まで

昨夕はHANAちゃんと一緒にお散歩。

Last evening, Konatsu went for a walk with HANA.

オートで撮影していたので暗くなってからはピンボケの写真ばかりになってしまいました。

I was shooting on auto, so after it got dark, all I got were out-of-focus photos.

HANAちゃんと知り合ってもう10年くらい経つ。先日、HANAちゃんの昔の画像をCDにコピーしてお渡ししたばかりだったので、昔話などしながら30分ほど一緒に歩いた。

It’s been about ten years since I got to know HANA. The other day, I had just made a copy of HANA’s old pictures on a CD and gave it to her owner, so we walked together for about half an hour while talking about the old days.

上の写真は2013年のこなつとHANAちゃん。2頭ともスリムだった。左端はアッ君。

たまには早朝の江ノ島散歩もいいものです。

こなつのワクチン接種

今、ワクチンというとコロナワクチン3回目みたいですが、そうではなくて今日はこなつのパルボワクチンを接種しに行ってきました。

Now, when I say vaccines, it sounds like the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, but it’s not, and today I went to get Konatsu’s parvo vaccine.

この時点では楽しそうな顔してるけど、こなつは病院が大嫌い｡｡｡

At this point, Konatsu looks happy, but she hates hospitals.

そして無事終了！　ついでに体重測定したら18.7kg。前回よりほんの僅かだが減っていて良かった。

家に帰ってきたら暴れまくっていました。病院に連れていかれたのが気に入らなくて、ベッドに八つ当たり？(笑)

ひっそりと伊豆まで

マンボウ発令中ではありますが、以前から計画していた旅行だし、自分たちが感染対策をしっかり行おうと決めて出かけました。今回は箱根の東急ハーベストに一泊、カーログループの伊豆高原クオーレに一泊です。ハーベストはいつもアップしているので今回は二日目から書きます。
My wife and I have traveled to the Izu Peninsula. This time, we will stay overnight at Tokyu Harvest in Hakone and overnight at Izukogen Cuore in the Caro Group. I have introduced Harvest many times, so this time I will write it from the second day.

箱根から国道1号線を三島方向に下る途中、三島スカイウォークを過ぎた辺りで富士山です。この日はどのルートで伊豆高原に向かうか全く決めてなかったので、取り敢えず伊豆半島の真ん中に向かってみた。

Fuji on the way down Route 1 from Hakone in the direction of Mishima, just past the Mishima Skywalk. I hadn’t decided at all which route to take to Izu-kogen that day, so I just headed for the middle of the Izu Peninsula.

ここは道の駅「伊豆月ヶ瀬」、伊豆縦貫道を南下してここまで来ました。

This is the roadside station “Izu Tsukigase”, and we took the Izu Junkan Road south to get here.

そこからまだ私たちが行ったことのない西伊豆の海岸線をドライブしてみようと思い、土肥→松崎→もう一度山越えして伊豆高原、のルートを辿った。その途中､､､

From there, I decided to drive along the coastline of Nishiizu, which we had never been to, so I followed the route of Toi → Matsuzaki → over the mountains again and Izu Kogen.

日本で一番開花が早いと言われている土肥桜がもう咲いています。

土肥から数キロ南下した所にある恋人岬。運転中に目に入ったので、今更？と言われそうだけど寄ってみました。ママはご丁寧に鐘を鳴らしてきた(笑)

ここから見える景色も素晴らしく、この日は波が無く海は穏やかでプールみたいだった。

ここから約1時間で伊豆高原、この日の宿泊宿「クオーレ」に到着です。

About an hour from here, we arrived at the hotel “Quore” on the day in Izu Kogen.

同じカーログループの「はんなり」のすぐ裏に「クオーレ」は位置しています。はんなりは和風のコンセプトですがクオーレは洋風。

“Quore” is located just behind “Hannari” of the same Carlo group. Hannari is a Japanese-style concept, but Quore is a Western-style.

↑「はんなり」と共有のドッグランと↓「クオーレ」専用の梅のドッグランの二つあります。

そしてこの後は、旅の楽しみの一つでもある夕食の時間です。

色だけは似ているバーニーズ＆こなつ

今朝の七里ヶ浜です。バーニーズのミオ君とルフナちゃんと一緒になった。

This is Nanarigahama this morning. Konatsu is with Mio and Ruhuna. Konatsu is with Mio and Ruhuna. They are Bernese Mountain Dog.

右がミオ君、左がルフナちゃん。

Mio is on the right and Ruhuna is on the left.

大きい子が並ぶとさすがに迫力がある。

When big dogs are lined up, it is really powerful.

頑張って近づいてみるけれどこれが精いっぱい。

Konatsu try her best to get closer to Mio, but this is all she can do.

こんな風に近寄ってこられるとビビッちゃいます。やっぱり昔のアッ君はこなつにとって特別な存在だったと思えてくる。

Konatsu flinched when Mio get closer like this. After all, it seems that Alex was special to Konatsu.

防犯カメラ

アマゾンから防犯カメラが届いた。

A security camera arrived from Amazon.

というのも、この地区は空き巣被害が多いので、我が町の自治会が防犯カメラの設置の補助金を出してくれることになった。だから早速これを買ったのです。

This is because there are a lot of burglaries in this area, and our town’s community association decided to subsidize the installation of security cameras. So I bought this right away.

いざ設置しようとすると他にもいろいろ難問がある。我が家は2Fにwifiルーターがあるのですが、この防犯カメラはネットワーク接続で作動するので今のままでは電波が届かない。そこでwifi中継器を階段と玄関の2ヶ所に設置して玄関の外のカメラまで電波が届くようにする。

When it comes time to install it, there are many other difficulties. We have a wifi router on the second floor of our house, but since this security camera works with a network connection, the signal cannot reach us as it is now. So we will install a wifi repeater in two places, one on the stairs and the other at the entrance, so that the signal can reach the camera outside the entrance.

「あれぇ､､､　接続できない､､､　おかしいなぁ､､､」なんてことを数時間繰り返してやっと接続できた！

I was finally able to connect by repeating things like “Oh … I can’t connect … It’s strange …” for several hours!

その間こなつは「アタシの相手もしてください～！」と盛んにアピールを繰り返す。

It’s a perfect picture!　I can see it on my phone when I’m out and about, and I can talk to it with the microphone. If someone suspicious comes, I can say, “Hey! I’m watching you! (lol)

まあ何も起こらないのが一番良いのだが、これで少しは安心です。

Well, it’s best that nothing happens, but this gives me some peace of mind.

甲斐犬の信玄君だった。今、4歳か5歳くらいだったかな。

It was Shingen, a Kai Ken. He is about 4 or 5 years old now. Kai Ken is a Japanese dog. It is said that he is faithful to his owner and does not bark in vain.

家に戻った時には日没直後、キレイだね。そして、その翌々日の今朝はとても寒い。

When I got home, it was beautiful right after sunset. And it was very cold this morning the day after that.

朝の散歩からもどったこなつは毛布の上が気持ちいいようで、ここから動こうとしない。

Konatsu, who returned from the morning walk, seems to feel comfortable on the blanket and does not move from here.

歳を取って寒さに弱くなってきたのだろうか｡｡｡　それともここの居心地が良いだけのこと？

I wonder if Konatsu has become vulnerable to the cold as she gets older .. Or is it just a cozy place here?

一夕閑話

もう眠っていた夜中の12時頃、スマホからけたたましい警報音が鳴り響き、地震警報かと思って画面を見たら津波警報だった。しかも50cmくらいと書かれているから「なぁ～んだ」と再び寝た。ところがその後警報音が3回も4回もスマホとタブレットの両方からも鳴るので安眠妨害も甚だしい。電源をオフにしてようやく朝まで邪魔されずに眠った。朝になってニュースを見ると、トンガで海底火山が爆発して津波が発生し、日本でも漁船が何隻も沈没したらしい。思ったよりも大ごとだったんだと納得。

Around 12 o’clock in the middle of the night when I was already asleep, a loud warning sound was heard from my smartphone, and when I looked at the screen thinking it was an earthquake warning, it was a tsunami warning. It says about 50 cm, so I went to bed again. However, after that, the alarm sounds three or four times from both the smartphone and the tablet, so it is extremely disturbing to sleep. I turned off the power and finally slept undisturbed until morning. Looking at the news in the morning, it seems that a submarine volcano exploded in Tonga and a tsunami occurred, and many fishing boats sank in Japan as well. I was convinced that it was a bigger deal than I expected.

午前中に七里ヶ浜まで行く用事があって、念のため山のコースを通って行ったのですが、さすがに今日はサーファーは一人も海に入っていなかった。

I had to go to Shitirigaham in the morning, so I went through the mountain course just in case, but when I saw the sea on the way, no surfer was in the sea today.

家に戻ってニュース映像をみたら、トンガでは結構大きな津波が押し寄せていたし、被害は不明だとか。住民に被害がないことを祈るしかありません。

When I returned home and watched the news footage, it was said that a fairly large tsunami was flooding in Tonga and the damage was unknown. I have no choice but to pray that the inhabitants will not be damaged.

ご存知の方も多いかもしれませんが Floodmaps というサイトがあって、そこを見ると自分の家が何メートルの津波で水没するのかを見ることができます。用心のために見ておくのも良いと思います。

As many of you may know, there is a site called Floodmaps, where you can see how many meters of a tsunami will submerge your home. I think it’s a good idea to take a look as a precaution.

スズキヤ西鎌倉店にて

西鎌倉の駅前にスズキヤという地場スーパーがあります。

There is a local supermarket called Suzukiya in front of the station in Nishikamakura.

今このスズキヤの売り場に近所の幼稚園や小学校の生徒が描いた絵が展示されているのですが、その中に､､､

Now, in this Suzukiya meat section, pictures drawn by students from a kindergarten or elementary school in the neighborhood are on display.

よく見ると「KONATSU」と「HOWL」と名前が書かれています。実はコレ、七里ヶ浜でのこなつのお友達のハウル君ちの息子さんK君が描いてくれたんです。絵のタイトルにも書かれていますが、これは陸上混合リレーでハウル君が1着！、こなつが僅差の2着！3着以下を大きく引き離してゴール！という絵です。　K君、ありがとう！

If you look closely, the names “KONATSU” and “HOWL” are written. Actually, this was drawn by Kentaro, the son of Howl’s family, a friend of Konatsu at Nanarigahama. As mentioned in the title of the picture, this is a land mixed relay, and Howl is the first one! , Konatsu is the second place with a close margin! Goal by pulling away 3rd place or less! Thank you, Kentaro !

まだ雪が残ってる七里ヶ浜

久しぶりに雪道走行を味わえた二日間でした。昨日は首都高速が殆どの区間で通行止めになったけれど、横浜新道～首都高1号横羽線のルートだけは通れたので仕事にも行けたのでした。

It was two days that I could enjoy driving on a snowy road for the first time in a long time. Yesterday, the Metropolitan Expressway was closed for most sections, but I was able to go to work because I could only pass the route from Yokohama Shindo to Metropolitan Expressway K1 Yokohane Line.

家の前の坂道は凍結していたけれど、タイヤはSUV専用のBLIZZAK DM-V3。凍結するとスタッドレスでも危ないのは承知しているが特に問題は無かった。

The slope in front of my house was frozen, but my tires are BLIZZAK DM-V3 for SUVs. I know that studless tires are dangerous if frozen, but there was no particular problem.

そして今日、道路上の雪はほぼ無くなっていたが七里の広場に着いてみると､､､

今日は胃カメラ

主治医の先生が「貴方の年齢になったら年に一度は是非胃カメラを」と盛んに胃カメラを薦めてくれるので今日胃の検査に行ってきました。

My doctor actively recommends a gastrocamera, saying, “When you reach your age, please come to the gastrocamera once a year.” So I went to the stomach examination today.

7:45の予約だったので早起きしてこなつの散歩も済ませ、病院へ､､､

I made a reservation at 7:45, so I got up early and finished Konatsu’s walk, and went to the clinic …

待ち時間にこの本を読んでいた。とても克明に調べてあり興味深いけど、ファンの一人としては最後の部分はやはり悲しい。

I was reading this book while I was waiting. It’s very scrutinized and interesting, but as one of the fans, the last part is still sad.

そして胃カメラの検査は麻酔を使用するので、気が付いた時には終わっていた。採血ついでにその他の検査もいろいろやってくれて、すべて異常なし、健康！

このクリニックにはこんなカフェも併設されていて、検査結果を待つ間ここで朝食を食べられる。今朝は朝ごはん抜きだったからここで食べることにした。
