台風が過ぎ去り、夕方の散歩に出かけた。

After the typhoon passed, we went for an evening walk.

小川に沿って歩いていると鷺らしき鳥が歩いているのが目に入った。

While walking along the creek, I saw a bird that looked like a heron walking along.

こなつもそれを見つけてジッと見ている。

Konatsu also spotted it and stared at it.

家に戻ってから調べてみたら、これはアオサギという種類らしい。この辺りではあんまり見かけたことが無かったが、いるんだね。

After returning home, I looked it up and found that it was a grey heron. I had never seen many of them around here, but I guess they do exist.

こなつが突然オスワリした。こなつが何かを前にしてオスワリするときはその相手に対して「遊ぼう！」とか「ちょうだい」とか何かを訴えていることが多い。察するにこのケースでは「こっちにおいでよ」かな。

Konatsu suddenly sat down. When Konatsu does this in front of something, she is saying “Let’s play! or “Give it to me” to the other person. In this case, I guessed it was “Come here”.

大型で強い台風14号が接近中。今朝の散歩のときに見た七里ヶ浜海岸も波が高く大荒れで、さすがにサーファーの姿はありませんでした。

A large and strong typhoon No. 14 is approaching. The Shichirigahama beach I saw during my walk this morning was also very rough with high waves, and as expected, there were no surfers in sight.

日本列島を縦断するようだけど被害が出ないことを祈るばかり。

It seems to be moving through the Japanese archipelago, but I just hope it doesn’t cause any damage.

さて、こなつはここ数日はこれと言って変わりなく過ごしていて大した話題も無いので、昨日の食事のシーンでも。

Well, Konatsu has been spending the last few days without much change, and there is nothing much to talk about, so I’d like to show you the scene of yesterday’s meal.

昨日は新鮮な肉が買えたので、生肉のトッピングを用意しているところです。

I was able to buy fresh meat yesterday, so I’m preparing raw meat toppings.

私は気付かなかったが後ろでこなつがオスワリして待っていた。

I didn’t notice, but Konatsu was waiting behind me, ostentatiously.

眼光鋭いね！(笑)

You have a keen eye, don’t you! (lol)

13歳が近づいてきたこなつは少しずつ足腰が弱くなってきている感じはするけれど、食欲旺盛だからまだ急激に衰えることは無いでしょう。

As Konatsu approaches 13 years of age, I feel that her legs and back are gradually weakening, but she still has a good appetite, so I don’t think her health will deteriorate too rapidly.

こういう時間が長く続くことを望む！

I hope this kind of time lasts for a long time!

ここ数日はこれと言って話題にするようなことも無く、平穏な日々を過ごしています。夕方の散歩に私とこなつママとこなつの2人＋1で出かけたその途中の風景がこの一枚。秋の夕方らしさが感じられますね。

The past few days have been peaceful, with nothing to talk about. My wife, Konatsu, and I went for an evening walk, and this is a shot of the scenery on the way. It feels like an autumn evening.

最近のこなつは、まだ年老いるには早いと思うが散歩の時間も歩く距離も短くなってきた。下の写真はママが買い物してるときにスズキヤの前で私とこなつが待っていた時のもの。

Recently Konatsu has been taking shorter and shorter walks, although I think it is still too early her to get old. The picture below was taken when my wife was shopping and Konatsu and I were waiting in front of Suzukiya.

ほんの少し気懸りなことと言えば、最近たまにこなつがご飯を食べようとしないことがある。食べることを何よりも楽しみにしているこなつだから、食べなくなると我々としてはどこか具合が悪いんじゃないかと心配してしまう。唯一の救いは、食べ残した上にお刺身を置くとすべてを食べ尽くすということではあるが､､､。

One thing that worries me a little is that Konatsu sometimes doesn’t want to eat her food these days. Konatsu looks forward to eating more than anything else, so when she doesn’t eat,
I worry that something is wrong with her. That said, if I put sashimi on top of the leftover food, she will eat it all up…

朝の散歩の帰りに、江ノ島にかかる虹が見えました。きれいだね。

During my morning walk, I saw a rainbow over Enoshima Island. It’s beautiful.

さて昨日、娘からこなつ宛にプレゼントが届いた。これは何かというと､､､

Well, yesterday, I received a present from my daughter addressed to Konatsu. What is this?

その中に凍らせた保冷剤を入れて首に巻き付けて、これで散歩するという暑さ対策グッズだった。9月になって涼しくなってきたけど、まだ暑い日もあるだろうから何回か使えるだろう。

It was a heat protection item that I put a frozen coolant in it and wrapped it around Konatsu’s neck and walked around with it. It is getting cooler in September, but there will still be hot days, so it will probably be used several times.

防蚊加工なのもいいね。こなつは色が黒いから蚊が寄り付きやすく散歩のときにこなつの周りに蚊がまとわりつくことが多く、時にはそのまま家の中に入ってきてしまうから。

I like that it’s mosquito-proof. Konatsu’s black fur tends to attract mosquitoes, and they often cling to her when she goes for walks, and sometimes come straight into the house.

少し前に、スカーフの中に保冷剤を入れて歩く写真をご紹介したけど、こっちの方がはるかに良いね。

A while back I posted a picture of a scarf with a coolant inside and around Konatsu’s neck, but this is much better.

こなつが前回シャンプー＆カットしてもらったのは6月だった。それから3ヶ月経ち伸び放題の毛が目立つようになってきたので私がカットしてみることにした。

The last time Konatsu had a shampoo and cut was in June. Three months have passed since then, and her hair has grown uncontrollably, so I decided to cut it myself.

カット用のハサミは持ってるんです。人犬兼用だけどね(笑)

I have scissors for cutting. It’s for both people and dogs, lol.

この写真だと判りにくいけど、お腹・お尻・尻尾の毛が長くなっている。

It is hard to tell in this picture, but the hair on the belly, buttocks, and tail has lengthened.

というワケでトリミング開始です。

So I started trimming.

こなつは嫌がって暴れるかと思ったが、案外大人しくてされるがままだ！

I thought Konatsu would not like it and would get into trouble, but she was surprisingly quiet and did as she was told.

ほんの15分程でこのくらいカットした。一度に全部やろうとするのは大変だから、今日は私が思い描いてたイメージの50%くらいで終わりにした。続きはまた近日中にやろうと思う。

I trimmed this much in just 15 minutes. It’s hard to do everything at once, so today I ended up with about 50% of the image I had in mind. I’ll do the rest in the near future.

お腹と尻尾の毛はかなり短くなった。初めてにしては上出来だ(笑)

The hair on her belly and tail is much shorter now. It’s a good job for a first time lol.

姪夫婦が我が家に来てくれたので一緒に夕飯を食べることになった。初対面の人は苦手なこなつだからどうかな？と思ったが､､､

My niece and her husband came to our house and we had dinner together. I wondered how it would be, since Konatsu is not good at meeting people for the first time. I wondered…

最初のうちはなかなか近寄ろうとせず、遠巻きに様子を見ていたのですが

Konatsu didn’t try to get close to them at first and was looking at them from a distance.

テーブルに食べ物が並び、こなつが大好物のお刺身が出てくると､､､

When the food was placed on the table and sashimi, Konatsu’s favorite dish, was served…

予想通りの展開でした。

It was just as I had expected.

姪のご主人からも生シラスを食べさせてもらい徐々に馴れていったね。

My niece’s husband gave her some raw shirasu to eat, and she gradually got used to them.

時間が経つにつれ落ち着きを取り戻してリラックスできるようになった。

As time went by, Konatsu became calmer and more relaxed.

動物病院からハガキが届いた。

I received a postcard from the veterinary clinic.

6種混合ワクチンの時期が来たとのお知らせなので早速行ってきました。

The time had come for the six-drug combination vaccine, so I immediately took Konatsu to the clinic.

こんな風にして中の様子を除いているけど、本当は怖いのです。

Konatsu excludes the inside like this, but she is really scared.

毎度のことだけど、怖くてこんなにプルプル震えちゃうんです(笑)

Every time she gets scared and shakes so much lol.

診察台に乗ってしまえば大人しくしているからエライね！

Once she’s on the examination table, she’s quiet, which is great!

注射が終わった後で先生から「お利口でした！」とおやつを頂いている。この先生になれるまでに何年もの時間がかかったけれど、今はもうこんなに懐いている。もうほかの病院には行けません。

“That was clever!” and a treat from the doctor after the injection. It took her many years to get used to this doctor, but Konatsu loves him so much now. I can no longer take her to other clinics.

今日、ついでに量ったこなつの体重は18.6kgで、良い状態をキープしています。

Today, Konatsu weighed in at 18.6 kg and is in good condition.

週末は雨が降って涼しい日々でしたが、また暑い夏が戻ってきました。日曜日の夕方、私達二人とこなつで夕方の散歩に出かけた。

After a weekend of rain and cooler days, hot summer weather has returned. On Sunday evening, the two of us and Konatsu went for an evening walk.

早く行こうよ！とドアの前で準備OKのこなつ。

Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go! and Konatsu is ready at the door.

このときすでに18:00を過ぎているけど、まだ外は蒸し暑い。それでもこなつは尻尾を振りながら意気揚々と歩き始めた。

It was already past 18:00 at this time, but it was still hot and humid outside. Even so, Konatsu wagged her tail and began to walk with great enthusiasm.

夏至から2ヶ月近く経ち、暗くなるのが早くなってきたと感じるね。

Nearly two months have passed since the summer solstice, and it seems to be getting dark earlier and earlier.

散歩の途中でママの友達と会ったのだが、こなつはオヤツを貰えると思って尻尾フリフリ！

We met a friend of my wife’s on our walk, and Konatsu flicked her tail in anticipation of getting a treat.

オヤツいただきました！

I got a treat! and a smiling Konatsu.

再び歩き始め、龍口明神社の前を通り過ぎ、こなつのお友達のお宅の前まで行ったら､､､

We started walking again, passing by the Ryuguchi Myojinsha Shrine, and when we got to Konatsu’s friend’s house…

仲良しのワンコと会えてこなつは嬉しかったね。

Konatsu was happy to see her good friends.

今日はこなつの笑顔がたくさん見られた。

I saw a lot of smiles on Konatsu’s face today.

陽が落ちても暑さは変わらず、我々は家に戻ることにした。

As the sun went down and the heat remained the same, we decided to head back home.

家まであと5分、汗はダラダラ､､､

Five minutes to home, and I’m sweating.

ようやく家に到着！

Finally home!

短い散歩でした。

It was a short walk.

明け方、凄い雷雨でした。雷の音が苦手なこなつは私が寝ている部屋のクローゼットに逃げ込み、ブルブル震えていたのです。その様子を見かねた私はこなつを連れて車に乗り、音楽を流しながらドライブ。そうすれば車内には雷の音が聞こえないからこなつは安心できるようだった。まだ朝4時なのにねえ､､､(笑)

At dawn, there was a huge thunderstorm. Konatsu, who does not like the sound of thunder, ran into the closet in the room where I was sleeping and was trembling. I couldn’t stand the sight of her, so I got in the car with Konatsu and drove around with music playing. That way, Konatsu seemed to be at ease since there was no sound of thunder in the car. Even though it was only 4:00 in the morning, lol.

午前中には雨が上がったので近所の公園に散歩に行ってきた。

The rain stopped in the morning, so I went to a neighborhood park to walk Konatsu.

朝のドライブのときにもオシッコはさせたけど、それから6時間も経てば2度目もちゃんと出ます(笑)

Good thing today is my day off from work.

こんなことが続かないように願いたいものです。そうは言ってもこなつが雷と花火の音が嫌いなのは今更治ることも無いだろうから、またそのうち同じ目に遭う？

I hope this will not continue. That said, Konatsu’s dislike of the sound of thunder and fireworks will probably never be cured now, so will she suffer the same thing again sometime in the future?

朝の公園での散歩です。みなさん涼しいうちに散歩したいから5時半頃には続々と集まってくる。その時間帯なら風が吹けばけっこう涼しく感じるのです。

It is a morning walk in the park. Everyone wants to take a walk while it is cool, so they gather one after another around 5:30 am. At that time of day, if the wind is blowing, it feels quite cool.

そして6時くらいには帰っていくのが最近の行動パターン

And everyone leaves around 6:00, which is the pattern of our recent walks.

こなつも公園を1周歩いてくると「もう帰ろう！」とばかりに車の前に向かいます。

After walking a lap around the park, Konatsu just said, “Let’s go home!” and headed for the car.

そして家に戻ると、こなつは朝ごはん

And back at home, Konatsu has breakfast.

こなつは2年前くらいからこれを主食にしています。カロリー控えめのシニア犬用フード。

Konatsu has been on this as her staple food for about 2 years now. This is a low calorie senior dog food.

ドライフードにシニア犬用の牛乳をかけて食べる。これがこなつの毎日の朝食。

Dry food with milk for senior dogs. This is Konatsu’s daily breakfast.

あっという間に食べ終わる。

It is eaten in no time.

「これで終わりじゃないよね？」と料理中のママをガン見している。

“This isn’t the end, is it?” Konatsu gazes at my wife while she is cooking.

こなつの期待通り、私のお皿にはこなつ用の目玉焼きが半分乗っている(笑)

As Konatsu expected, I have half a fried egg on my plate for Konatsu (lol).

食欲があるのは良い事だし、いつかのように食べなくなってしまう方が心配だからね。目玉焼きを食べるのも毎日の日課なのです。カロリーコントロールには気を遣っているし動物病院の先生からも目玉焼きは1日1個までならOKと言われている。

It’s good that Konatsu has an appetite, and I’d be more worried if she stopped eating like she did sometime ago. Eating fried eggs is also part of her daily routine. I’m careful to control Konatsu’s calories, and the veterinary doctor says it’s OK to have no more than one fried egg a day.

元気に夏を乗り切ろう！

Let’s get through the summer in high spirits!

こなつの散歩の話です。こなつの夕方の散歩に行くのは5時半くらい。それでも暑いので最近はこんなものを用意しています。

Konatsu’s walk. It is about 5:30 when Konatsu goes for her evening walk. It is still hot, so recently I have prepared something like this.

これはこなつ用のスカーフ

This is a scarf for Konatsu

そのスカーフを水に濡らして冷蔵庫で数分冷やし、それを取り出したら保冷剤を入れて三角形にします。

Wet that scarf in water and refrigerate it for a few minutes, then when I take it out, put it in a triangle with a cooling agent.

そして、保冷剤が首の後ろ側になるようにスカーフを巻き付ければ準備オーケー！

Then wrap the scarf around Konatsu’s neck so that the refrigerant is on the back of her neck, and “I’m ready to go!”

こなつにとってこの状態が冷たくて気持ち良いのか分からないけど、嫌がらないから良しとしよう。

I don’t know if this condition is cold and pleasant for Konatsu, but she doesn’t mind it, so it must not be bad.

日陰の道を選んで歩き、公園に辿り着いた。

We chose a shaded path and walked, reaching the park.

見上げればカラスが集団で飛び回っている。

Looking up, crows are flying around in groups.

保冷剤が抜け落ちないか心配したけどそんなこともなく、この方法は結構イイかもね。

I was worried that the refrigerant might fall out, but it didn’t. I think this method might be pretty good.

今日の散歩は短かったけどこれで終了です。それなりに満足した顔に見える。

Today’s walk was short, but it’s over now. She looks so-so satisfied.

天気予報によればこの先暫くは雨も少なく暑い日が続くようです。ヨーロッパでも各地で40℃超えを記録してるらしいけど、この地球温暖化を何とかしないとね｡｡｡

According to the weather forecast, the hot days are likely to continue for a while with little rainfall. I heard that even in Europe, temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in many places…something must be done about this global warming.

こなつの夕方の散歩はいつもこのくらい暗くなってからです。それでも帰ってくると､､､

Konatsu’s evening walks are always taken this late in the evening. Still, when she returns,,,

水をガブガブ飲んで、その後はすぐに横たわって動こうとしない。

She takes a gulp of water, and then immediately lies down and refuses to move.

私がベランダに出ても追ってこようとしないし､､､

When I go out on the balcony, Konatsu doesn’t try to follow me…

ゴロゴロしてばかり。こなつも夏バテ気味なのかね？

Konatsu just keeps stumbling around. Is she also suffering from summer fatigue?

今週は再び梅雨に戻ったかのような雨続きの日々。

This week has been rainy, as if we are back in the rainy season again.

それでもこなつの散歩は欠かせないのでレインコート着せて歩き始めた。

However, Konatsu’s walks are indispensable, so I put on her raincoat and started walking.

雨の中だけど尻尾は上がっているからイヤじゃないんだよね。

It’s raining, but she doesn’t hate it because her tail is up.

しばらく歩いたらマー君に会った。こなつのと同じような色合いのレインコートだね。

After walking for a while, we met Maron. It’s a raincoat of the same shade as Konatsu’s. Konatsu and Maron would try to play with each other if they could see each other, but it is impossible in this rain today.

雨が止む気配は全く無いし､､､

There’s no sign of the rain stopping at all, and…

こなつも「もう帰ろうよ」という顔してるので家に帰りましょう！

Konatsu has a “let’s go home” look on her face, so let’s go home!

家に着いたらこんなに嬉しそうな顔になっている(笑)

She looks so happy when she gets home, lol.

頭までびしょ濡れ｡｡｡

She was soaking wet to the head.

ちゃんと拭いてね！という顔だ。

Wipe it off properly! That’s the look on her face.

雨の日のワンシーンでした。

It was a scene from a rainy day.

こなつは私達が食後に何か甘いお菓子を食べようとすると、その気配を察した途端にじり寄ってくる。その察知能力には感心してしまう。

Whenever we try to eat some sweet snacks after dinner, Konatsu comes to us as soon as she senses our presence. I am impressed by her perceptiveness.

今夜は人形焼を食べようとしたのですが、その袋を開けるガサゴソという音がしたら、もう私の足元に来ているのです。

Tonight I was about to eat Japanese pancake, but when Konatsu heard the rustling sound of that bag being opened, she was already at my feet.

「それ、アタシも食べられますよね？」という顔してオスワリしている。

“I can eat that, too, can’t I? ” Konatsu appears to be saying.

こんな見せ方する方が悪いと言えば悪いが､､､

It is wrong to say that it is worse to show it this way.

餡子の入ってない部分だけならいいか、と私はこなつに甘いから､､､

I give in to Konatsu too easily, “I’ll give you just the part without the bean jam.”

結局こうなるのです。

This is what happens in the end.

明日は夏至。それと関係あるか分からないけど日本全国どこも暑いようです。私は仕事で群馬に来ているけど、ここも真夏のような暑さです。犬は殆どの犬種が暑さには弱いようですが、こなつも暑さにはとても弱い。今夏も例年に増して熱くなるようだから高齢のこなつには堪えるだろうな。

Tomorrow is the summer solstice. I don’t know if it has anything to do with it, but it seems to be hot all over Japan today. I am here in Gunma for work, and it is as hot as midsummer here. Most dog breeds seem to be sensitive to heat, and Konatsu is also very sensitive to heat. This summer is going to be hotter than usual, too, which will be hard on Konatsu, who is very old.
