I’m surprisingly fine, so I’ll report on the progress. This time I was hospitalized for ureteral stone surgery and the surgery was successfully completed 2 days ago. Now I am waiting for discharge while checking my physical recovery.
This is the hospital room where I am now. In general anesthesia, the surgeon puts a tube to send air into my throat because I can’t breathe by myself, but the damage caused by it was unexpectedly large after the operation, and I couldn’t sleep until dawn. So it was good to apply for a private room this time.
The room also has a shower and toilet, so this is the cheapest private room but comfortable enough.
By the way, my wife and daughter sent me pictures of Konatsu to cheer me up after the operation, so I would like to introduce some of them.
Looking at the news, I was a little worried because it was said that “many people feel that the second dose has a fever after the inoculation or that they feel more tired than the first dose.” However, even now, about 6 hours after the inoculation, I don’t feel any side effects, and this will not affect my work tomorrow.
The following is the NHK site updated on 3 June.
In Japan, 8.21% of people have completed the first shot.
The gloss of the fur has disappeared and the whitish fur has emerged as a whole. For the next month or more, Konatsu’s fur will be flying around the house, so I will be busy cleaning.
By the way, yesterday, “MUJI” opened on the site of Takashimaya in Konandai. Mujirushi Ryohin, MUJI in Japanese, translates as “no-brand quality goods.” MUJI is based on three core principles, which remain unchanged to this day: 1. Quality Materials 2. Less Excess 3. Minimum Packaging It means that there is the first “MUJI” food department in Kanto, so I went there immediately.
The ground floor is the department for household goods and clothing
The food department is on the first basement floor.
Even though it is unbranded, you can see branded products such as Matsuzaka beef and Ashigara beef. lol
There is also a kitchen counter, and it seems that various events will be held. Queens Isetan also has a tie-up, and although the price is not cheap, it was a store with a lot of good items.
From a few days ago, only the latest articles on my blog are displayed. I think it’s a configuration problem, but I can’t solve it. Please wait.
It seems that there was something wrong with the article posted on May 5th, and when I deleted it, it was restored. I will upload only the photo of the day again.
I’ve been to Gunma for work since last Friday. This is Kanra Town, Gunma Prefecture, and there are famous cherry blossom spots here. The blooming time was about a week later than in South Kanto, and it was in full bloom this time. I will omit the explanation below, but please enjoy the row of cherry blossom trees in a rural town in Japan.
I had a business to go out this morning, and when I was watching the breaking news of MLB in the parking lot there, Otani of the Angels hit a home run! It is a picture of that moment. lol
Unexpectedly, my work is so busy that I can’t update my blog. Even so, I go to Shichirigahama for a walk of Konatsu every morning, and Konatsu can meet and play with her friend dogs. However, I haven’t taken pictures.
So I only have this picture, but Konatsu is fine!
Maybe I can resume updating in the middle of next weekI.
Today is Valentine’s Day. Japanese Valentine’s culture is a strange custom for foreigners, so I will explain Japanese Valentine’s Day to people who access this site from overseas.
During this time, many people buy chocolate at department stores and specialty stores, as if chocolate festivals were being held all over Japan. Valentine’s Day was imported to Japan in the 50’s by a Japanese chocolate company that wanted to profit from a special occasion that revolved around buying things for people you love. Some of the first ads for Valentine’s Day here in Japan accidentally misrepresented the Western tradition – claiming it was a day when women showed love to the men by giving them various types of chocolate (instead of the other way around).
Now more than 50 years later, Japanese Valentine’s Day is still a day when women give presents to men.
That’s why I also benefit from it every year, and this year it has become like this.
My wife prepared Hidemi Sugino’s Prunne. This store is one of Japan’s leading patisseries.
There is chocolate with rum in the prunes. The prunes are juicy, and after chewing, smooth chocolate with rum spreads in the mouth. very delicious!
There are 2 types of chocolates given on Valentine’s Day : Honmei-choco, Giri-choco.
Honmei-choco、 comes from the words “honmei” meaning favorite and “choco” meaning chocolate. Honmei choco is the chocolates you give to a very special person in your life, such as boyfriend, husband, or close male friend. From time to time, honmei-choco are accompanied by a “love confession”, where a woman askes the recipient to be her boyfriend.
Giri-choco、literally means “obligation chocolate”, and as you can probably guess, these chocolates are given to people who you are not romantically involved with , such as collegues, acquaintances, and bosses.
In recent years, new type of Valentine`s Day chocolate has been added: “Tomo-choco” which means chocolate given exclusively to your friends!
The photo above is a chocolate gift from the staff at my workplace. This is Giri-choco (Lol)
I’m always getting healing from you so I won’t ask for anything!
At the entrance of the road I just climbed, is it a modern cut? This road is a prefectural road that you take when you go to Enoshima from the direction of Ofuna, and it seems that the cooperation of the Self-Defense Forces was completed in the 1960’s.
If I go deeper into the cut of Yatosaka, there is Kamakura old road, which is a quiet place that is perfect for a walk.
This is an undeveloped woodland area near a village
Konatsu is also walking comfortably.
I came back on the way today, but this road leads to Mt. Kamakura and we can enjoy a 2-hour walk.
No wonder, the washer fluid was frozen, so no water came out, so I started the engine in this state and stopped until the car warmed up. It’s not a big deal because the car isn’t buried like the snowy region, but for me, who was born in warm Shizuoka, even such an event seemed unusual.
The photo above is “Kagami mochi”. Kagamimochi is two-round piled up rice cakes. It’s a Japanese tradition to decorate “Kagami mochi” in our house in the new year. At the end of new year, we eat Kagaminochi , which is believed to have the god’s spirit exists to wish good health and happiness of the family.
We break Kagamimochi into small pieces by hitting with a wooden hammer. We say “waru” in Japanese to say “break” but “waru” is also a direful word. Therefore, it became to say “open” instead of “break” for believing in good future.
Meanwhile, my wife boiled azuki beans and prepared sweet red bean soup with grilled rice cake .
This is almost complete, and there are two ways to eat it.
Sweet red bean soup with grilled rice cake. The seasoning of my home is not sweet
The other is to eat grated daikon radish with the scent of yuzu.
It’s awkward to go on a trip or eat out after the state of emergency is declared. We were planning to travel in early February but decided to cancel. Meanwhile, today was the day when I had made an appointment for a routine examination for Kamakura citizens, and although I was a little confused about going to a hospital where many people gather, my wife and I should go because of our own health. I made it.
Although the scale is small as a general hospital, this is the Shonan Memorial Hospital.
The entrance from the parking lot is closed, and we go to the front door, where we receive temperature measurements and interviews and enter. It seemed that the number of people who came to the examination was a little smaller than usual.
Konatsu wants to come with us when we go out, even for a short time. Even today, Konatsu was waiting in the car until our examination was over. Even so, it’s boring that we can only go out like this. Please be careful not to get infected with COVID-19.
I’m on a business trip to Gunma from today. The news of heavy snow was flowing on both TV and the Internet, and on the way to Gunma, the instrument panel of the car displayed “Caution for freezing of the road surface” several times.
Above is a photo showing that the Japanese archipelago is completely covered with cold air. Below is the depth of snow
This is where I am now. There is only a short distance to the snowy area, and tomorrow’s forecast says that this area will also be snowy. I’ve changed the tires to studless tires, so it’s okay if it snows. Well, will it really snow?
Today, I went to the Harbor View Park while my wife was treating her teeth at a dental clinic in Motomachi.
There are few tourists due to the spread of COVID-19 infection. And when I went to the observatory …
Marine Tower and Yokohama Bay Bridge
When I looked towards the harbor, I saw something in the middle…. Zoom in!
This is Gundam. You can see that it is very large compared to the human in the lower right. When I happened to be in this place, it seemed like it was time for Gundam to move, so I was able to shoot it, so I uploaded it to YouTube.
This is the movement from Gundam crouching down to standing up. It is quite powerful even from a distance
It looks like this from a close distance.
Returning to the walk in the park again …

We had quick lunch in Scandia and came back.
It’s 2021. This morning, I went to see the first sunrise of the year and went for a walk with Konatsu and may daughter.
When I went near the sea, there were a lot of people who came to see the first sunrise of the year, and the road was in heavy traffic. In Japan, people believe Toshigami-sama, the Japanese deity of the year, comes with the first dawn, so it is customary for people to join their hands in prayer to ask for well-being for the year at the sight of the first sunrise.
The sun just started to rise as I was driving along the coast.
Bruno was the first dog Konatsu met this year.
It was very cold this morning due to the cold weather coming south.
After this, we went back home and eat New Year’s dish.
This is a traditional Japanese New Year’s dish called Osechi-ryori. It’s an assortment of small dishes. Each dish has meaning, and is part of celebrating the New Year and helps usher in good health and prosperity for the family for the year.
Year-end is busy preparing for the New Year. I cleaned my house for two days until yesterday, and today I’m going to buy some ingredients for the New Year.
When I went to the supermarket Kinokuniya, the parking lot was full, so I was guided to the affiliated parking lot and entered such an alley.
I didn’t know, but before I knew it, there was a hotel like this in the alley here. The top floor is a suite with a large terrace.
After that, I went to several stores and finished shopping in the morning.
Is Konatsu just waiting in the car a little tired?
In the afternoon, decorate with New Year’s pine decoration. This is a Japanese custom and means “a decoration to welcome deity into the house.” In Japan, it has believed that deity comes to each family to bring happiness on Yew Year’s day. However, the deity only visits when he is invited.
Decorate the entrance and gate.
After that, when I go for a walk …
A magnificent pine decoration was completed at a nearby shrine.
When I try to print a New Year’s post cards, the characters are printed in duplicate. I tried head cleaning according to the instruction manual, but it didn’t work. Probably the head needs to be replaced. After considering various things, I decided to buy a new one.
It’s a new model from Canon, so I’ll have it work for the next 10 years.
Printing is complete with the latest status of the family, and it will arrive on New Year’s Day.
Christmas is approaching, and more and more homes are lit up in the neighborhood. I used to decorate the Christmas tree at my house, but recently I haven’t put it out, so my wife decorated it at least at the entrance.
This is all this year.
I used to put a Santa hat on Konatsu, but I don’t do that either.
