GWが間近になった平日なら観光地も空いてるんじゃないかと箱根に行ってきました。今回はアンズ家と一緒ですが現地集合なので、行く途中平塚でランチです。
We went to Hakone, thinking that the sightseeing spots would be free on a weekday as the Golden Week holidays were approaching. This time, we went with Anne and her family, but we were meeting locally, so we had lunch in Hiratsuka on the way there.

月曜日なら空いてるだろうと思いきや、名前を書いて順番待ち。
I thought it would be empty on a Monday, but I wrote down my name and waited my turn.
美味しそうなメニューが沢山あったけど、海鮮丼を注文。これで￥1,480、写ってないけど味噌汁、お新香も付いている。 そしてここから箱根まではほぼ1時間。
There were many delicious-looking dishes on the menu, and we ordered a bowl of kaisen-don (rice topped with seafood). It was ￥1,480 and included miso soup and oshinko (pickles), which are not shown in the picture. And it takes almost an hour to get to Hakone from here.
いつもと同じく東急ハーベスト箱根甲子園のペットルームに宿泊です。今回ここに来た目的は「太原」の美味しい中華料理を食べること、しかも4人なら多くの種類を注文出来て楽しいですからね。部屋で一休みしてると太原のマイクロバスがお迎えに来てくれます。
As usual, we stayed in a pet room at Tokyu Harvest Club Hakone Koshien. The purpose of coming here this time was to eat delicious Chinese food at “Taigen,” and with four people, we could order many kinds of food, which is fun. While we were taking a rest in the room, Taigen’s microbus came to pick us up.

麻婆豆腐。辛すぎず、コクもあって他店ではなかなかお目にかかれない味です。

レバニラ炒め、これで6品目ですがまだまだ終わりません。

これは光麺、具が何もなく小皿に香菜が添えられているだけの麺。それを4人で分けた。
This is light noodles, just noodles with no garnish, just a small plate of aromatic greens. One portion was divided among four people.

〆のチャーハン。ご飯がパラパラになっていて素晴らしく美味しいチャーハンでした。

ここからはデザートで、これは白玉団子。最後に杏仁豆腐を食べたのですが写真を撮り忘れてしまいました。全部で11品も食べたのですが、写真でも分かる通りどれも4人でシェアしてるから満腹ではあるが食べ過ぎと言うほどではないのです。
From here on, it’s dessert, and this is a white bean dumpling. Lastly, I had apricot bean curd, but I forgot to take a picture of it. We had 11 dishes in total, but as you can see from the pictures, all of them were shared by 4 people, so we were full, but not so much that we ate too much.

翌朝、ようやく雨が上がり、辺り一面霧がかかっている中をこなつと散歩。
The next morning, the rain finally stopped, and I took a walk with Konatsu in the foggy weather.
ママがパンとサラダの軽い朝食を用意してくれたので、4人とワンコ2頭がゆっくりと昨夜の余韻に浸りながらの時間を過ごしたのでした。ここからはこなつとアンズちゃんの楽しそうな様子をご覧ください。
My wife prepared a light breakfast of bread and salad, so the four of us and our two dogs took our time to relax and enjoy the afterglow of last night. Below you can see Konatsu and Anne enjoying themselves.

こなつママのお友達が3日間我が家に滞在して今日帰って行った。こなつは誰かが家を訪ねてきて家の中が賑やかなのが大好きなので、こなつには楽しい3日間だったようだ。
A friend of my wife’s stayed at our house for three days and left today. Konatsu loves it when someone comes to visit and the house is lively, so it was a fun three days for Konatsu.

食事やティータイムになると、こなつは彼女の横に寄り添って「何かもらえないかなあ」って顔してる。
When it’s time for dinner or tea time, Konatsu cuddles up next to her and looks at her with a “I wonder if I can get something?” look on her face.
テーブルにケーキが並ぶと食い入るように覗き込んでいる。それでも飛びつかないのはエライね。
When cakes are lined up on the table, she peeks at them as if she were devouring them. It’s great that she doesn’t jump at the cakes.
そして結局こうなるのです(笑)

ウクライナは47日目です。市街地やそこの人々の惨状はニュースで報道されているので知ることはできますが、私はペットと暮らす人の立場で状況を見守っています。
Ukraine is on day 47. We can know about the devastation in the cities and the people there as it is reported on the news, but I am observing the situation from the perspective of someone who lives with his pets.

そろそろ春から初夏に季節が移りそうな陽気で、庭に回ってみるとママが育てている花がたくさん咲いている。私は花の名前が殆ど分からないので写真だけ貼ってみますが､､､
The weather is about to change from spring to early summer, and as I turn around in the garden, I see that many of the flowers my wife is growing are in bloom. I hardly know the names of the flowers, so I’ll just put up pictures.
これだけ一斉に咲けばキレイだとは思うが、草花音痴の私はコメントのしようがない。

私たちはこんな穏やかな夕方を過ごしているが、ウクライナは戦争45日目。久しぶりにUAnimalsのサイトからの画像ですが、同じ地球上で起きてはいけない事だ。
We are having such a peaceful evening, but it has been 45 days since Ukraine was invaded by Russia. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this image from the UAnimals site, but it’s a scene that should not be happening on the planet we live on.
朝はお友達ワンコ達の散歩の時間がだんだん早くなってきたので、私もいつもより少し早起きして七里ヶ浜に向かった。
In the morning, dogs were getting earlier and earlier in their walks, so I got up a little earlier than usual and headed for Shichirigahama.

このくらいまで近づいたら、こなつは私に気が付いて走り出そうとしている。

シバちゃんは両目義眼だけど、こうしてちゃんと歩けるんです。凄いね。
Shiba has artificial eyes in both eyes, but he can walk like this. That’s amazing.
家で待っていたら0歩、こうして歩けば3,000歩。わずかな時間だけど運動になりました。
If I waited at home, I would have taken zero steps; if I walked this way, I would have taken 3,000 steps. It was only a short time, but it was good exercise.

今日は私が群馬に出張、ママは所用で数時間外出するのでこなつはどうしてもお留守番するしかない。こなつは何となくそれを悟ったみたいで僅かな抵抗、僅かな意思表示をしていた。

甲子園では選抜大会が終わったばかりですが、高校野球は各地で夏に向けた戦いが始まっている。
Today I’m not talking about Konatsu, but an extra edition.
母校を愛してやまない私は昨日、静岡草薙球場まで試合を見に行ってきました。
yesterday I went to Shizuoka Kusanagi Stadium to cheer for my alma mater’s baseball game.
この球場は歴史があり、戦後すぐにアメリカ野球チームがべーブルースを中心に来日したとき沢村栄治投手が快投した場所としても知られているのです。
This ballpark has a long history and is also known as the place where Sawamura pitched a great game when the American baseball team, led by Babe Ruth, came to Japan right after the war.
Japanese professional baseball has the Sawamura Award, which is the equivalent of the Cy Young Award in American Major League Baseball.
スタジアムの入り口付近にはその二人の像が立っており、待ち合わせ場所としても有名。
Statues of the two men stand near the entrance to the stadium, which is also a famous meeting place.
そして試合開始。この春季大会は夏の甲子園大会県予選のシード校を決める大会でもあり、我々のような母校応援団にとっても結果が気になるのです。
And the games begin. This spring tournament also decides the seeded schools for the prefectural qualifying rounds of the summer Koshien Tournament, so the results are very interesting for the alma mater’s supporters like us.
終わってみれば、相手チームを圧倒して19-0でコールドゲームだった。これで県大会出場が決定、県でベスト8に入ればシード権が得られる。

シャワーを始めると、こなつは狭い浴室の中でも逃げ回り、上の写真はようやく観念してシャンプーを洗い流しているところです。

仕上げはアイロン台をベランダに持ってきてその上でドライヤーします。というのも、普通にドライヤーしようとすると逃げ回ってしまうので、アイロン台に乗せて逃げられないようにするのです。
To finish, bring an ironing board to the balcony, place Konatsu on it, and dry it. This is because Konatsu will run around if you try to dry her normally, so I put her on the ironing board to prevent her from escaping.
最後はブラシで整えて終了です。

昔は桜の季節になるとこの道は桜見物の車で大渋滞していました。しかし今は桜の木が老木になり花が少なくなってしまったので渋滞することもなくなりました。

約1時間の散歩して家の近くまで戻ってきたらルナちゃんに会えた。

もう15歳？16歳？のルナちゃんは、今日はカートに乗ってお散歩でした。

フィラリアの検査と狂犬病予防接種の時期になりました。こなつはシニア犬だから数年前からそれと同時に詳しい血液検査もやっており、今日動物病院に行ってきました。
Health checkup for Konatsu.
It is time for filaria testing and rabies vaccinations. Konatsu is a senior dog, so we have been doing detailed blood tests at the same time for several years, and we went to the veterinary clinic today.
いつもの事ですが、病院が嫌いなこなつは待合室に入るとブルブル震え始める。でも何故か診察室の様子を除きに行ったりもするのです。
As usual, Konatsu, who hates clinic, starts shivering as he enters the waiting room. But for some reason, she also goes to check on the examination room.
今日はこなつだけしか来院してなかったので、ゆっくり時間をかけて診察してもらえました。
Since only Konatsu visited the clinic today, the doctor spent plenty of time examining her.
先生とこなつのブログの話もしたので、こんな写真も撮らせてもらえました。こなつは診察台の上に乗ってしまえば大人しくなり、何をされてもされるがままなのです。
The doctor and I talked about Konatsu’s blog, so I was allowed to take these pictures. Once Konatsu is on the examination table, she becomes quiet and does as she is told, no matter what is done to her.
フィラリアは陰性で問題なし！
Negative for filaria, no problem!
その他の血液検査の結果は､､､昨年まではPCV･血液の濃度が濃かったが今年は正常値に戻った。食事管理が上手くいってるのでしょうとの事で良かった。 一方で、ALT･肝酵素の数値が高く、慢性肝炎かもしれない。これは1ヶ月後に再検査になった。
The other blood test results were: PCV/blood concentration was high until last year, but returned to normal this year. I am glad to hear that the diet control is going well. On the other hand, ALT/liver enzymes were high and may be chronic hepatitis. This will be rechecked in a month.
そしてもう一つ
And one more thing.
これは白内障の予防点眼液です。検査機で診てもらいました。
目のレンズ=水晶体はタンパク質ですが酸化（=老化）によりその成分が抜けていき、白濁してくる。そうなる過程で初めに水晶体が歪んでくるそうで、そうなると光が乱反射して白く見えるのだそう。いまのこなつはその状態で、まだ水晶体が白濁しているのではないが予防のために今後は目薬しましょうということになったのです。全体的には大きな問題はなく、まだ元気でいられそうだ。
This is a prophylactic eye drop for cataracts. Konatsu was examined by a testing machine.
The lens of the eye is a protein, but due to oxidation (=aging), its components are lost and it becomes cloudy. In the process, the lens becomes distorted at first, and when this happens, light is diffusely reflected and the lens appears white. Konatsu is now in this state, and although the lens is not yet cloudy, it was decided to use eye drops in the future as a preventive measure. Overall, there are no major problems and she still seems to be in good health.
コロナが拡大してからは予定されていたコンサートが中止になることが多くてなかなか行く機会に恵まれませんでした。正確に覚えてないけど多分2年ぶりくらいのコンサートです。
It had been a long time since I went to a concert, and since Covid-19 expanded, many of the scheduled concerts were cancelled, so I didn’t get a chance to go. I don’t remember exactly, but it’s been probably about two years since I’ve been to a concert.

The highway wasn’t busy, so we got there in a little over an hour from home!
今日はこの二人のデュオ・リサイタル。樫本大進はベルリンフィルのコンサートマスターで、小菅優はドイツ在住で欧州で活躍中のピアニストなので日本ではなかなか聴けない組み合わせ。とても良い時間を過ごすことができました。
Today is a duo recital by these two musicians. Daishin Kashimoto is the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, and Yu Kosuge is a pianist living in Germany and active in Europe, a combination that is not often heard in Japan. We had a very good time.
この日のプログラム。終了後にこなつママが「大進君のヴァイオリンの音が変わった気がする」と言っていたが、ネットで調べてみたら今はグァルネリ・デル・ジェスの「ド・ベリオ」を貸与されていてこれを日本で弾くのは初めてだったそう。それに気付くとは大したもんだ。
This is the program of the day. After the end of the program, my wife said, “I think Daishin’s violin sound has changed.” I checked the Internet and found out that he was playing “Do Berio” by Guarneri del Gesu, which he had recently acquired, and this was the first time he had played this piece in Japan. It was great that she noticed that.

TVを消して布団に入った直後に、あれ？揺れてるな｡｡｡と思ったら徐々に揺れが大きくなって、こなつも何事かと驚いている様子だった。
It was a late-night earthquake.
Right after I turned off the TV and got into bed, I thought, “Huh? Earthquake. The shaking gradually increased, and Konatsu seemed surprised to see what was going on.
急いでTVを見たら、またも東北地方で震度6強の地震だ。その地方の人達はさぞ怖かっただろうと思いますし被害が小さいことを祈るばかりです。
I hurriedly turned on the TV and saw that another earthquake had hit the Tohoku region, this time measuring 6 on the Japanese seismic scale. I can only hope that the people in that area must have been scared and that the damage was minimal.
気象庁の会見を見ていたらこんなデータが出ていました。地震警報が出てから鎌倉まで55秒で揺れが伝わってきたらしい。中心の「０」の所は警報が出たときにはすでに揺れていたということなんだって。巨大地震だったら逃げられないね。
I was watching the JMA conference and found this data. They said that the tremor was transmitted to Kamakura, where I live, in 55 seconds after the earthquake warning was issued. The “0” in the center means that the earthquake had already shaken when the warning was issued. If it had been a huge earthquake, we wouldn’t have been able to escape.
今回の地震はマグニチュード7.4だそうだが、それでも東北自動車道が地割れしたり新幹線が脱線したりしている。そう考えると2011年のあの大地震はマグニチュード9.0だったから、如何に強烈だったか、改めて思い知らされる。

For 20 days, Ukraine has suffered from the actions of its Russian occupiers. Despite fatigue and all the risks, keepers continue to do their best to help the animals. Today, Team UAnimals provided financial assistance to several shelters to help their animals. Today Kyiv volunteers distributed food to residents who could not afford to buy food for their pets.
Some exciting news. At the blockaded Gostomel shelter, today the 78 year old facility owner did a great job and brought a generator that will bring water to the shelter. Together with him we donated 70 liters of gasoline, 500 kg of dog food, and food for the shelter staff. This will help the shelter residents survive.

WAR15日目。動物救護状況。
ウクライナでは、ロシアの侵略者との戦争が2週間以上続いています。 このような厳しい状況の中、UAnimalsチームは動物の救助を続けています。
残念ながら、多くのシェルターにとって状況は危機的です。その多くがロシア軍によって封鎖され、活発な砲撃が行われている地域にあります。そのような避難所に行くことは不可能であり、特にそこから動物を避難させることは不可能です。つまり、日を追うごとに、ブロックされたシェルターにいるすべての動物の命が危険にさらされているのです。私たちは、シェルターのオーナーと連絡を取り合いながら、動物たちを救う方法を探しています。
今日は、キエフ植物園に100kgの飼料を提供しました。この植物園では、地元のボランティアが、近隣の民間セクターの飢えた動物たちを保護しています。また、キエフ・ヒポドロームでは、馬の餌を提供しました。
さらに、動物病院「アスティ」（Pechenizskaya 35番地）に、病気の動物のための薬や器具、飼料を購入するための資金を提供しました。このクリニックでは、負傷した動物の治療を無料で行っています。
また、UAnimalsからの支援はハリコフ動物園に送られました。また、オデッサの動物たちのために1,100kgの飼料を送りました。
今日、UAnimalsチームはChernivtsiとKamianets-Podilskyiから2頭のクマと1頭のオオカミをルーマニアに避難させはじめました。

Day 15 of WAR: Animal rescue status.
The war with the Russian invaders has been going on in Ukraine for more than two weeks. In such difficult conditions, UAnimals team continues to rescue animals.
Unfortunately, the situation is critical for many shelters. Many of them are still blocked by Russian troops and are in the area of active shelling. It is impossible to get to such shelters, especially since it is not possible to evacuate animals from there. This means that with each passing day, the lives of every animal in blocked shelters are becoming more and more endangered. We try to stay in touch with shelter owners and look for ways to save animals.
Today we helped the Kyiv Botanical Garden by providing it with 100 kg of fodder. In the garden, local volunteers sheltered hungry animals from the private sector nearby. They also helped with horse feed at the Kyiv Hippodrome.
In addition, our team provided funds to the veterinary clinic “Asti” (Pechenizskaya 35) for the purchase of medicines, equipment and feed for sick animals. This clinic provides free treatment for injured animals.
Besides, assistance from UAnimals was sent to Kharkiv Zoo. Another 1,100 kg of feed we sent for the needs of Odessa animals.
Today, UAnimals team began evacuating two bears and a wolf from Chernivtsi and Kamianets-Podilskyi to Romania.
We do not forget to monitor the situation with animals in small towns and villages and situationally help local shelters.

3.11震災後のようでもある
ここ1年ほど中央公園に行ってないなぁと思い、こなつの散歩に行くことにした。
I realized that I had not been to Kamakura Central Park in the past year or so, so I decided to go for a walk with Konatsu.
湘南モノレールに沿って町屋まで行き、そこから桔梗山を登った所に鎌倉中央公園があります。
Follow the Shonan Monorail to Machiya, and from there climb up Mt. Kikyo to find Kamakura Central Park.
正面入り口。ここの駐車場は予約制なので昨日電話しておいた。
Main entrance. Parking here is by reservation only, so I called yesterday.
駐車場に到着し「これから歩くよ！」というところだけど何だか浮かない顔してる。見慣れない場所だから「ここはどこ？」と思ってるのかもしれない。
When we arrived at the parking lot, “Where am I?” It looks like she’s saying. Maybe because it was an unfamiliar place.
中央公園という名前の通り鎌倉市の真ん中に位置している。
As the name “Central Park” suggests, it is located in the middle of Kamakura City.
それほど人も多くなく、こなつは尻尾を振りながら元気に歩いてます。
There are not that many people, and Konatsu is walking briskly, wagging her tail.
たまにすれ違うと犬の散歩してる人ばかり。今日1時間で10頭くらい会ったよ。
Every once in a while I pass by and all I see are people walking their dogs. Today I saw about 10 dogs in one hour.
公園内を全部歩くと山を登ったり下ったり結構タフなコースです。
Walking through the entire park is quite a tough course up and down the mountain.
さて、今日も最後にウクライナからです。
Well, the last one today is from Ukraine.
毎日facebookを見ていると、UAnimalsのページに次々とペットたちの様子がアップされています。日本ではどちらかと言えばウクライナ寄りの報道になりますが、世界ではそれぞれの国の立場により様々な報道がされているのだろうと思います。それでも無抵抗の市民への攻撃は許されるものではないし、ペットたちも被害者でしかない。
Everyday I look at facebook and see one after another updates on the UAnimals page about the pets. In Japan, the news coverage is rather pro-Ukrainian, but in the rest of the world, I am sure there are many different reports depending on the position of each country. Still, attacks on unarmed civilians are not acceptable, and the pets are only victims.

We can only hope that both the dogs and their owners are safe. This is the least I can do, but I hope it will convey the message that there are people in faraway Japan who care about the dogs and their owners.
