夏の散歩には保冷剤が効果あり？

こなつの散歩の話です。こなつの夕方の散歩に行くのは5時半くらい。それでも暑いので最近はこんなものを用意しています。

Konatsu’s walk. It is about 5:30 when Konatsu goes for her evening walk. It is still hot, so recently I have prepared something like this.

これはこなつ用のスカーフ

This is a scarf for Konatsu

そのスカーフを水に濡らして冷蔵庫で数分冷やし、それを取り出したら保冷剤を入れて三角形にします。

Wet that scarf in water and refrigerate it for a few minutes, then when I take it out, put it in a triangle with a cooling agent.

そして、保冷剤が首の後ろ側になるようにスカーフを巻き付ければ準備オーケー！

Then wrap the scarf around Konatsu’s neck so that the refrigerant is on the back of her neck, and “I’m ready to go!”

こなつにとってこの状態が冷たくて気持ち良いのか分からないけど、嫌がらないから良しとしよう。

I don’t know if this condition is cold and pleasant for Konatsu, but she doesn’t mind it, so it must not be bad.

日陰の道を選んで歩き、公園に辿り着いた。

We chose a shaded path and walked, reaching the park.

見上げればカラスが集団で飛び回っている。

Looking up, crows are flying around in groups.

保冷剤が抜け落ちないか心配したけどそんなこともなく、この方法は結構イイかもね。

I was worried that the refrigerant might fall out, but it didn’t. I think this method might be pretty good.

今日の散歩は短かったけどこれで終了です。それなりに満足した顔に見える。

Today’s walk was short, but it’s over now. She looks so-so satisfied.

暑いですねえ､､､

朝からこんな感じです。コントラストを見ただけでも暑そう。

It’s hot, isn’t it? It’s like this in the morning. Just looking at the contrast, it looks hot.

こなつを車に乗せてちょっと出かけるだけでも飲み水が欠かせない。

Even just taking Konatsu in the car and going out to run a few errands requires drinking water.

水筒に氷水を入れて持っていきます。停車したらゴクゴク！

I fill a water bottle with ice water for Konatsu and take it with me.

家に戻ってくるとグダグダしてます(笑)

When she come back home, she’s goofing off (lol)

こなつの身体をよく見ると白い毛が浮き上がってる。そう、抜け毛の季節になっているのだ。

If I look closely at Konatsu’s body, I can see white hairs rising. Yes, it is shedding season.

その部分を指先でつまむとこうなるし､､､

I pinch the area with my fingertips and it goes like this, and…

家の中はあちこちにこなつの毛玉が落ちている。この先2ヶ月はこの状態が続くんだよね。
ところで、前回書いた高校野球の続きです。

The house is covered with Konatsu hairballs everywhere. It’s going to stay like this for the next two months.
By the way, this is a continuation of the high school baseball game I wrote about last time.

昨日、母校の応援に行ってきました。スタンドは両校のファンでこんなに埋まっていた。

Yesterday, I went to support my alma mater. The stands were so filled with fans of both schools.

この球場はかつて澤村とべーブルースが試合した由緒ある球場であり、二人の記念像が立っているのです。

This ballpark is a historic place where Sawamura and Babe Ruth once played a game, and a memorial statue of the two stands here.

さて試合の方は､､､

Now for the match…

両軍のピッチャーが頑張って0-0のジリジリした展開が続いたのですが､､､

Both pitchers did their best to keep the 0-0 jitters going, but…

遂に8回裏に我らが静高が待望の1点を先制！そして9回表の相手の攻撃が2アウト走者なしとなり、あと1アウトで我々の勝利！もう勝利を疑わなかったのですが､､､

Finally, in the bottom of the 8th inning, our alma mater scored a long-awaited run! Then, in the top of the 9th inning, our opponent’s offense got two outs and no runners on base, and with just one more out, we had won! We didn’t doubt our victory anymore, but…

何という事か、そこから3点を取られて逆転負けを食らってしまった。我々はただ茫然とするしかなく、これで静高の夏が終わってしまいました。

What a surprise, from there they scored three runs and lost the game in reverse order. We could only be stunned, and with that, our team’s summer was over.

高校野球の話

各地で甲子園の予選が盛り上がっています。我が母校・静岡高校も甲子園目指して奮闘中で昨日は何度も負けを覚悟したほどのシーソーゲームで9回裏にサヨナラ勝ちし、明日はいよいよ準々決勝。

Today I’m talking about high school baseball.
The National High School Baseball Championship of Japan, commonly known as “Summer Koshien”, is an annual nationwide high school baseball tournament. It is the largest scale amateur sport event in Japan, even as soccer continues to gain more attention. There are about 3,500 teams participating nationwide. Currently, my alma mater is also competing in the Shizuoka Prefecture Tournament for a berth in the Koshien Tournament. They won yesterday’s game to remain in the top 8, and will play in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

昨日草薙球場まで応援に行った私の友人が送ってくれた写真です。応援風景は私が在校生だった50～60年前と変わらず、伝統の継承と言えます。そして今年も新たな伝説が生まれる。人はそこを聖地と呼ぶ。

A friend of mine who went to the ballpark yesterday to cheer for the team sent this photo.
The cheering scene is the same as it was 50-60 years ago when I was a student at the school, which can be said to be a continuation of tradition. And this year, too, a new legend will be born. People call it a sacred place.

人もワンコも夏バテ気味

天気予報によればこの先暫くは雨も少なく暑い日が続くようです。ヨーロッパでも各地で40℃超えを記録してるらしいけど、この地球温暖化を何とかしないとね｡｡｡

According to the weather forecast, the hot days are likely to continue for a while with little rainfall. I heard that even in Europe, temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in many places…something must be done about this global warming.

こなつの夕方の散歩はいつもこのくらい暗くなってからです。それでも帰ってくると､､､

Konatsu’s evening walks are always taken this late in the evening. Still, when she returns,,,

水をガブガブ飲んで、その後はすぐに横たわって動こうとしない。

She takes a gulp of water, and then immediately lies down and refuses to move.

私がベランダに出ても追ってこようとしないし､､､

When I go out on the balcony, Konatsu doesn’t try to follow me…

ゴロゴロしてばかり。こなつも夏バテ気味なのかね？

Konatsu just keeps stumbling around. Is she also suffering from summer fatigue?

ワクチン接種4回目

昨日、4回目のワクチン接種に行ってきた。

Yesterday, I went for my fourth Covid-19 vaccination.

1回目、2回目の頃はまだかまだかと待ち侘びたけど、4回目ともなると「またか？」という感じだ。3回目までは全てファイザーだったが、今回は副反応が強いと噂のモデルナ。どんな症状が出るのか心配ではあったが、今日は友人をお招きして家呑み会となった。

The first and second times, I waited and waited, but by the fourth time, I was like, “Again? Up to the third time, I had taken Pfizer, but this time I took Moderna, which is rumored to have strong adverse reactions. I was worried about what kind of symptoms I might have, but today I invited my friends over for a drinking party at my house.

Konatsu is ready to go.

最初のおつまみは刺身。ということはこなつの出番だね！

The first appetizer is sashimi. Which means it’s Konatsu’s turn!

今日はここにいる4人から食べ物をもらえるから、普段のペットフードは無しにして、目一杯お刺身食べました。

Konatsu ate a lot of sashimi today, without her usual pet food, because she get food from the four people here.

トマトの中をくり抜いて、中はカニと胡瓜と玉ねぎのゼリー寄せ。冷やして食べます。

Hollow out the tomatoes and inside is a jellied crab, cucumber and onion. It is delicious when eaten chilled.

梅酢で下味を付けた鳥の唐揚げ、サッパリして美味しいよ。

Fried chicken seasoned with plum vinegar, crispy and delicious.

これはギリシアワイン、アシルティコという珍しい品種のぶどう。とても香りが良い

This is a Greek wine, Assyrtiko, a rare variety of grape. Very aromatic.

今の季節には欠かせない生シラス。食べ方いろいろあります。

Fresh baby sardines are indispensable in this season. There are many ways to eat it.

ポン酢に薬味とショウガ、一番オーソドックスな食べ方

Ponzu(Japanese citrus juice), condiments and ginger, the most common way to eat

オリーブオイルをかけ、レモンと塩で味付けする

Season with olive oil, lemon and salt.

酒・みりん・赤唐辛子で沖漬け

Pickled in sake, mirin and red pepper

スコーンを割って間にカッテージチーズとナッツソースを挟んだ

Split scones with cottage cheese and nut sauce in between.

これが最後の一品。右のはコーンスープの茶碗蒸しの冷製

This is the last dish. The one on the right is a cold steamed egg custard in corn soup.

アタシもこういう集まりは大好きです！とおそらく思っていることでしょう。

“I love these gatherings, too!” and Konatsu is probably thinking so.

雨の中をマスクして歩くと眼鏡が曇る

今週は再び梅雨に戻ったかのような雨続きの日々。

This week has been rainy, as if we are back in the rainy season again.

それでもこなつの散歩は欠かせないのでレインコート着せて歩き始めた。

However, Konatsu’s walks are indispensable, so I put on her raincoat and started walking.

雨の中だけど尻尾は上がっているからイヤじゃないんだよね。

It’s raining, but she doesn’t hate it because her tail is up.

しばらく歩いたらマー君に会った。こなつのと同じような色合いのレインコートだね。

After walking for a while, we met Maron. It’s a raincoat of the same shade as Konatsu’s. Konatsu and Maron would try to play with each other if they could see each other, but it is impossible in this rain today.

雨が止む気配は全く無いし､､､

There’s no sign of the rain stopping at all, and…

こなつも「もう帰ろうよ」という顔してるので家に帰りましょう！

Konatsu has a “let’s go home” look on her face, so let’s go home!

家に着いたらこんなに嬉しそうな顔になっている(笑)

She looks so happy when she gets home, lol.

頭までびしょ濡れ｡｡｡

She was soaking wet to the head.

ちゃんと拭いてね！という顔だ。

Wipe it off properly! That’s the look on her face.

雨の日のワンシーンでした。

ようやく面会が始まった

私の母が入居している七里ヶ浜の介護施設ではコロナ禍の影響で昨年から訪問面会が中止されオンラインでの面会だけしかできなかったが、今月から現地での面会が再開された。

At the nursing home in Shichirigahama where my mother resides, visitation has been suspended since last year due to the Covid-19 disaster and only online visitation has been available, but face-to-face visitation resumed this month.

早速面会の手続きして行ってきました。

I immediately arranged a visitation and went with my wife.

入居者が普段生活しているスペースには入れず、面会専用の部屋で15分という決まり。

The rule is that residents are not allowed to enter the space where they normally live, but in a room dedicated to visiting for 15 minutes.

8か月ぶりの面会だが特に変わりなく元気そうだった。

I visited my mother for the first time in eight months, and she seemed to be in good health with no particular change.

こんな感じで15分間です。ここ七里ヶ浜ホームは海の近くの高台にあるので眺めも良いし、職員の人達の雰囲気も明るくて居心地は良さそう。自分も将来ここなら良いかなと思う。

It is like this for 15 minutes. This Shichirigahama Home is located on a hill near the sea, so it has a nice view, and the atmosphere of the staff people seems to be cheerful and comfortable. I think it would be good for me to move in here in the future.

今回の面会はこれで終わり。

This is the end of this visit.

その間こなつは車の中で待っていました。こなつも一緒に入れたら良かったけど、残念ながらワンコは中に入れてもらえないから母には写真で我慢してもらうことになる。

Meanwhile Konatsu was waiting in the car. It would have been nice if Konatsu could have joined us, but unfortunately they wouldn’t let the doggie inside, so my mother had to put up with the pictures.

家飲み会～コンサートの週末

いつもの飲み友達をお招きして軽く一杯という掛け声で始めたけど、軽く終わるはずもなく､､､

We invited our usual friends for a drink and started with a call for a light one, but there was no way it was going to be light…

こんなビールも飛び出して、我々は大いに盛り上がる！

They even served this beer (devil’s beer) and we had a blast!

「アタシも飲み会大好きです。みなさんの周りに行けばいろんなのを食べさせてもらえるから！」とこなつは言ってると思います。

“I love to go out for drinks at home. If I go around you all, I get to eat all kinds of things!” I think Konatsu is saying.

今回は料理の写真の撮り忘れが多かったから一部だけご紹介します。

I forgot to take many pictures of the food this time, so I will only show you some of them.

それをこのナッツソースで食べると、とても美味しいのです。そして私は少々呑み過ぎて、翌日はやや二日酔い気味でコンサートに向かうことになった。。。

And when you eat it with this nut sauce, it is very tasty. And I drank a little too much and ended up going to the concert the next day somewhat hungover.

ここは相模原の「杜のホールはしもと」、我が家から車で約1時間半。

This is “Morino Hall Hashimoto” in Sagamihara, about an hour and a half drive from our house.

この二人のコンサートで、人気者の二人だから全席売り切れの超満員。

It was a concert of these two, and since they are both so popular, all the seats were sold out and the place was packed.

1曲目の作曲者のナディア・ブーランジェはその名前を知りませんでしたが、宮田さんの解説によるとピアソラの師匠だった人で、ピアソラにタンゴの作曲を薦めたのがこの人だそうです。そしてお目当てのフランクのチェロソナタもとても良かった。良い音楽を聴き、私の二日酔いもすっかり治り夜には元気いっぱいでした！

I did not know the name of the composer of the first piece, Nadia Boulanger, but according to Ms. Miyata’s explanation, she was Piazzolla’s teacher and was the one who recommended Piazzolla to write tango. And Frank’s cello sonata, which I was looking for, was also very good. After listening to such good music, my hangover was completely gone and I was full of energy by nightfall!

出張先にて

私は仕事で毎月何回か群馬に来るのですが、群馬は夏とても暑い所。今回は台風の影響で気温が下がっているので過ごしやすくて良かった。

I come to Gunma several times a month for work, and Gunma is a very hot place in summer. This time, the temperature was lower due to a typhoon, so it was nice and comfortable.

地方の町らしいのどかな風景が続きます。私が宿泊しているホテルの目の前に富岡実業高校という学校があり、その片隅に野球部の練習グラウンドがある。朝、散歩ついでに見に行ってみた。

The scenery is tranquil, typical of a provincial town. There is a school called Tomioka Jitsugyo High School right in front of the hotel where I am staying, and in one corner of the school there is a practice field for the baseball team. I went to take a look in the morning on my walk.

なかなか立派な設備が整っているのでどんなチームだろうと調べてみたら、近年は部員数が足りず近隣の6校で連合チームを作って試合をしていた。それでも今春は2勝したようだから大したものだ。

The ground was well equipped, so I checked out what kind of team they were, and found out that in recent years they have been playing games with an alliance of six neighboring schools due to a lack of members. Even so, the team won two games this spring, which is quite impressive.

保護者一同からの贈り物だった。14年前はまだ単独チームで戦えたのだろう。何となく、この夏のこの連合チームを応援したくなった。

It was a gift from all the parents; 14 years ago they could probably still compete as a single team. Somehow, I felt compelled to support this combined team in this summer’s tournament.

昨夜、こなつママに電話したらこなつが夕飯を食べないと心配していた。今朝は元気かな？

I called my wife last night and she was worried about Konatsu not eating dinner. How is she this morning?

ミューザ川崎まで

我が家から車で1時間のところにミューザ川崎シンフォニーホールがあります。

An hour’s drive from our home is the MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall.

コロナ禍が広がってからはコンサートに行く回数が急に減ってしまったが、昨日は久しぶりに聴きにきました。

I have been going to concerts much less often since Covid-19 disaster spread, but yesterday it’s been a long time since I’ve been here.

お目当ては、樫本大進ソロのサンサーンス・ヴァイオリン協奏曲第3番です。

The highlight of the evening was Daishin Kashimoto’s solo performance of the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No. 3.

今回はステージの後ろ側の最安席です。以前にも他のホールのこういう席で聴いたことあるけど、管楽器の音が大きく聞こえてきてバランスはイマイチなんだよね。

This time we are in the cheapest seats on the back side of the stage. I’ve heard this kind of seating in other halls before, but the wind instruments sound louder and the balance is not so good.

このケルン・ゲルツェニヒ管弦楽団は初の来日公演だそうで、私はその名前も知らなかったのだけど、演奏が始まってすぐにこれは素晴らしいオーケストラだというのが分かった。Gerzenich Orchesters Köln

This was the Cologne-Gerzenich Orchestra’s first visit to Japan, and I had never even heard of them, but as soon as they started playing, I knew this was a great orchestra.

久しぶりに七里ヶ浜です

しばらく七里ヶ浜の様子を書いてなかったので今朝はカメラを持って行ってみました。最近は暑くなったので皆さん散歩に来る時間が早くなり､､､

5時半過ぎに着いた時には散歩は終わりかけていた。

The walk was almost over when I arrived shortly after 5:30.

こなつはみんなと交わって遊ぶことはしないので遠くからその様子を眺めているだけ。数年前までのこなつはみんなと走り回るのが大好きだったけど、やっぱり歳のせいなのかな。最近はいろんな場面でこなつの衰えが見え隠れするようになり心配ではあるが、今のような時間がゆっくり流れていって欲しいし、この先もまだ沢山の思い出を作りたいからね。

Konatsu does not play with everyone and just watches from afar. Until a few years ago, Konatsu loved to run around with everyone, but I wonder if it is because she is getting older. Recently, Konatsu’s decline has become apparent in various situations, and I am concerned, but I hope that time will continue to pass slowly as it has in the past, and that we will still have many more memories to make in the future.

別れ際にみんなの写真を撮ることができました。

帰りはいつもと違うコースで

I took a different course on the way back.

沖にはシラス漁の船が見える。

Shirasu fishing boats can be seen offshore.
