我が家の菩提寺とこなつママの実家の菩提寺は共に静岡県内にあるので年に2～3回くらいお墓参りに行く。今回はお正月前でもあり両方のお寺に行ってきた。

My family temple and my wife’s family temple are both located in Shizuoka Prefecture, so we visit their graves about two or three times a year. This time, we visited both temples before the New Year’s holiday.

先ずは私の方のお寺から。藤枝市にある長楽寺。

First, we visited my family’s temple. Chorakuji Temple in Fujieda City.

こなつも一緒にお墓の前まで行き、掃除をして花を供えて、これでお墓参りが終了。
静岡にはこなつが保護された後に一時預かりをしてくださったミルクママさんのお宅があるので、久しぶりにお邪魔させていただきました。

Konatsu went with us to the gravesite, cleaned it, offered flowers, and that was the end of our visit. A volunteer who temporarily took care of Konatsu when she was sheltered lives near here, so we met her again after a long time..

どの写真もこなつは楽しそうに写っている。こなつは勝手に2階に上がって行ったりしてやりたい放題だった。10年以上経ってもこなつはミルクママさんのことを覚えているんだね。

Konatsu looks happy in every picture. Konatsu was doing whatever she wanted, going upstairs without permission, etc. Even after more than 10 years, Konatsu still remembers the person who rescued her, right?

最後にはたらちゃん(左)、なつめちゃん(右)と一緒に写真が撮れた。

たらちゃん。こなつと同い歳だけど若く見えるねえ！

Tara is the same age as Konatsu, but looks younger.

なつめちゃんは一つ年上だったと思う。来年もまた3頭で会いたいね！

Natsume is one year older than Konatsu. I hope to see all three of them together again next year.

さあ、夕方の散歩に出かけよう。

Come on, let’s go for an evening walk.

あと1週間で冬至だから4時を過ぎるとすぐに暗くなってくる。

It’s the winter solstice in a week, so it will be dark soon after 4:00 p.m.

今日、最初に会ったのはベルちゃんだった。ベルちゃんとこなつは仲良しなのだ。

Today, the first dog Konatsu met was Belle. Belle and Konatsu are good friends.

その後も次々とお友達がやってきた。トイプードルのココちゃんと、ボーダーコリーのオビちゃん。

After that, Konatsu’s friends came one after another. Coco, a poodle, and Obi, a border collie.

じゃあまたね！　とサヨナラして散歩は続く

See you later!　And the walk continues.

歩いているうちにどんどん暗くなり､､､

As we walk, it gets darker and darker…

冬の夕方らしい風景だね。

It’s a scene typical of a winter evening.

暗くなると光る首輪が役立っている。これが無いと黒いこなつは闇の中に埋もれてしまう。

When it gets dark, the glowing collar is very useful. Without it, the black-haired Konatsu would be buried in the darkness.

これは最近近くにできた教会。

This is a church that was recently built nearby.

いつもよりやや短い散歩だったけど、今日はこれでお終い。

It was a shorter walk than usual, but that’s all for today.

今年の初め頃からこなつの目がやや白内障気味になってきた。動物病院でそれを指摘され、進行を抑えるための目薬を毎日朝晩の2回さしている。

I am writing about Konatsu’s daily routine.
Konatsu’s eyes have been slightly cataractous since the beginning of this year. The veterinarian pointed this out to me, and I have been giving her eye drops twice a day, morning and night, to suppress the progression of the cataract.

ワンコにとって目薬をされるなんて行為は好きな筈ないと思うのだが、こなつは目薬を見せながら「はい、目薬だよ」と声をかけると近寄ってくる。

I don’t think dogs like to be given eye drops, but Konatsu comes up to me when I show her the drops and say, “Here, eye drops”.

オスワリしてジッとしている。されるがままなのだ。

Konatsu opened her eyes and kept quiet. She does as she is told.

エライねえ！　　でもね､､､

That’s great!　　But actually…

目薬した後は必ずご褒美をもらえることになっている。もしかするとコレが欲しいから大人しくしているのか？と思えないでもないのだが､､､(笑)

After the eye drops, she always gets a reward. I can’t help but wonder if she is being quiet because she wants this, lol…

与えすぎないように二切れくらいにしている。

I try not to give her too much, just two slices.

これがその目薬

This is the eye drops.

確かに右目がほんの少しだけど白っぽいかな。

It is true that her right eye is whitish, but only a little.

角度によっては白く見えなかったりもするのだが。こなつの様子からは目が見えにくいようには思えないし、このまま白内障が進まないことを願う。目薬が効いてるといいねえ。

It may not look white depending on the angle. From the way Konatsu looks, it doesn’t seem as if she has difficulty seeing, and I hope the cataract doesn’t continue to develop. I hope the eye drops are working.

12月に入り夕方の散歩の時間は辺りが暗くなり、黒毛のこなつは目立ちにくいのでいろんな事故の心配がある。だから散歩用にこんなのを買ってみた。

In December, it gets darker around the time of evening walks, and Konatsu’s black hair makes her hard to be seen, so there are concerns about various accidents. So I bought one like this for walking.

首に掛けて光らせるもので､､､

It is a light that hangs around Konatsu’s neck…

光る部分をハサミで切ってサイズを調整できるのが上手くできている。

The size can be adjusted by cutting the glowing part with scissors.

明るい場所でもこんなに目立つし､､､

It stands out so much even in a bright place…

電気を消して暗くしてみるとこんな感じ。

This is what it looks like when the lights are off and the room is dark.

更に真っ暗にするとこうなる。これなら目立つし、車や自転車からも認識されるね。

And when it is completely dark, it looks like this. It stands out and can be recognized by cars and bicycles.

些細なことだけど、これで散歩が楽しくなるかも。

It’s a small thing, but it might make my walk more enjoyable.
