最近はワクチンと言うとコロナワクチンを思い浮かべるけれど、先週こなつのパルボウィルスワクチン接種に行ってきた。

These days when I think of vaccines, I think of the COVID-19 vaccine, but last week I went to Konatsu’s parvovirus vaccination.

相変わらず病院に入った途端ガタガタブルブルとこなつの身体が震え出し、周囲の人にも「あらあら､､､」と言われてしまう始末だが無事ワクチン接種終了。

As usual, as soon as we entered the hospital, Konatsu’s body started shaking and the people around us laughed at us, but the vaccination was successfully completed.

家に帰ってきたらワクチンの事なんか忘れたかのようにオモチャをピポピポ鳴らしてドヤ顔してる。

When we got home, she was beeping her toys as if she had forgotten about the vaccine.

13歳目前の老犬とは思えない遊びっぷりである。
我が家は先代犬を13歳3ヶ月で亡くしているから先ずはそれをクリアして、その次の目標は15歳くらい、そして最後は出来ることなら20歳まで生きて欲しいと思っている。そのためには体調管理をしっかりやらないとならないのだが、病院でこなつの体重を計ったら19.5kgあり、年末より1kg近く増えてしまった。オヤツを減らそう！

It is hard to believe that she is an old dog who is about to turn 13 years old.
We lost our previous dog at the age of 13 years and 3 months, so we want her to live to be 15 years old first, and then 20 years old if possible. In order to achieve this goal, we need to take good care of Konatsu’s physical condition, but when I weighed her at the hospital, she weighed 19.5 kg, which is almost 1 kg more than she weighed at the end of the year. We need to cut down on the snacks!

2月に入りました。私の仕事が1月末で決算を迎えたため何かと忙しくブログの更新が出来ませんがこなつは変わりなく元気にしています。

February has arrived. My business closes at the end of January every year, so I have been too busy to update this blog, but Konatsu is doing well as usual.

よ～く見るとこなつの冬毛が伸びてボサボサ。今週末にシャンプー＆カットしてもらうよう予約をしておいた。

If you look closely, you can see that Konatsu’s winter hair has grown long and shaggy. I made an appointment to have her shampooed and cut this weekend.

散歩の途中に気が付いたのだが近所の肉屋にちょっとした変化が見られる。

While walking Konatsu, I noticed a slight change in the neighborhood butcher shop.

つい先日までこの肉屋が売ってるのは宮崎牛だったのに､､､　　↑

Just a few days ago, this butcher shop was selling Miyazaki beef…

いつの間にか山形牛に変わっていた。しかも入り口の看板の店名が「西鎌倉精肉店」になっている。何があったんだろうね､､､？　安いことに変わりはないようだが。こなつ用の安い肉を少し買って帰ってきた。

But before I knew it, it had changed to Yamagata beef. Moreover, the name on the signboard at the entrance has changed to “Nishikamakura Butcher Shop”. I wonder what happened to it…?　It seems that the price is still the same, though. I bought some cheap meat for Konatsu and returned home.

今週の後半は関東地方も雪予報になっている。最近は降ると言いつつ降らないというパターンだけど今週はどうなるだろう？　雪と言えば、こなつの動画を見ていたら5年前の雪遊びのを見つけたので貼り付けてみます。このときこなつは7歳、元気に走り回っているけど今はもう無理。

Snow is predicted for the Kanto region in the latter half of this week. It’s been a pattern lately of saying it’s going to snow but it doesn’t, but what will happen this week?　Speaking of snow, I found a video of Konatsu playing in the snow five years ago. Konatsu was 7 years old at that time, running around energetically, but she can’t do it anymore.

ここ数日、天気予報では10年に一度の寒波が襲来と呼びかけている。特に今日から寒くなるらしいので今朝はこなつに服を着せて散歩に行ってきた。

For the past few days, the weather forecast has been calling for a once-in-a-decade cold wave. It is said to be especially cold starting today, so this morning I dressed Konatsu and went for a walk.

寒々しい空、雪雲のように見えなくもない。

The sky is cold, and it looks like snow clouds.

犬も歳を取ると寒さに弱くなるらしい。こなつの体毛はアンダーコートがあるからシングルコートの子よりはマシかもしれないけれど、でももう12歳後半だからそれなりに寒さ対策も必要だろう。

It seems that as dogs get older, they become more vulnerable to the cold. Konatsu has an undercoat, so she may be better than single-coated dogs, but she is already in her late twelfth year, so I guess she needs to be prepared for the cold.

もう一つ、歳を感じさせることとして車の乗り降りがある。最近のこなつは若い頃のように軽快にはできなくなってきた。

Another thing that reminds me of her age is getting in and out of the car. Recently, Konatsu is no longer as nimble as she was when she was younger.

これは昔バーニーズのベルンちゃん(アンちゃんの先代犬)が晩年に使っていたものを譲って頂きました。

This auxiliary board was given to me by a friend who used to have a Bernese that he used to have in the last years of his life.

使い始めて数日は躊躇していたけれど、今ではこうして乗り降りしている。

She was hesitant to use it for the first few days, but now she gets in and out of the car like this.

我が家の菩提寺とこなつママの実家の菩提寺は共に静岡県内にあるので年に2～3回くらいお墓参りに行く。今回はお正月前でもあり両方のお寺に行ってきた。

My family temple and my wife’s family temple are both located in Shizuoka Prefecture, so we visit their graves about two or three times a year. This time, we visited both temples before the New Year’s holiday.

先ずは私の方のお寺から。藤枝市にある長楽寺。

First, we visited my family’s temple. Chorakuji Temple in Fujieda City.

こなつも一緒にお墓の前まで行き、掃除をして花を供えて、これでお墓参りが終了。
静岡にはこなつが保護された後に一時預かりをしてくださったミルクママさんのお宅があるので、久しぶりにお邪魔させていただきました。

Konatsu went with us to the gravesite, cleaned it, offered flowers, and that was the end of our visit. A volunteer who temporarily took care of Konatsu when she was sheltered lives near here, so we met her again after a long time..

どの写真もこなつは楽しそうに写っている。こなつは勝手に2階に上がって行ったりしてやりたい放題だった。10年以上経ってもこなつはミルクママさんのことを覚えているんだね。

Konatsu looks happy in every picture. Konatsu was doing whatever she wanted, going upstairs without permission, etc. Even after more than 10 years, Konatsu still remembers the person who rescued her, right?

Tara is the same age as Konatsu, but looks younger.

なつめちゃんは一つ年上だったと思う。来年もまた3頭で会いたいね！

Natsume is one year older than Konatsu. I hope to see all three of them together again next year.

あと1週間で冬至だから4時を過ぎるとすぐに暗くなってくる。

今日、最初に会ったのはベルちゃんだった。ベルちゃんとこなつは仲良しなのだ。

Today, the first dog Konatsu met was Belle. Belle and Konatsu are good friends.

その後も次々とお友達がやってきた。トイプードルのココちゃんと、ボーダーコリーのオビちゃん。

After that, Konatsu’s friends came one after another. Coco, a poodle, and Obi, a border collie.

じゃあまたね！　とサヨナラして散歩は続く

歩いているうちにどんどん暗くなり､､､

As we walk, it gets darker and darker…

冬の夕方らしい風景だね。

It’s a scene typical of a winter evening.

暗くなると光る首輪が役立っている。これが無いと黒いこなつは闇の中に埋もれてしまう。

When it gets dark, the glowing collar is very useful. Without it, the black-haired Konatsu would be buried in the darkness.

これは最近近くにできた教会。

This is a church that was recently built nearby.

いつもよりやや短い散歩だったけど、今日はこれでお終い。

It was a shorter walk than usual, but that’s all for today.

今年の初め頃からこなつの目がやや白内障気味になってきた。動物病院でそれを指摘され、進行を抑えるための目薬を毎日朝晩の2回さしている。

I am writing about Konatsu’s daily routine.
Konatsu’s eyes have been slightly cataractous since the beginning of this year. The veterinarian pointed this out to me, and I have been giving her eye drops twice a day, morning and night, to suppress the progression of the cataract.

ワンコにとって目薬をされるなんて行為は好きな筈ないと思うのだが、こなつは目薬を見せながら「はい、目薬だよ」と声をかけると近寄ってくる。

I don’t think dogs like to be given eye drops, but Konatsu comes up to me when I show her the drops and say, “Here, eye drops”.

オスワリしてジッとしている。されるがままなのだ。

Konatsu opened her eyes and kept quiet. She does as she is told.

エライねえ！　　でもね､､､

That’s great!　　But actually…

目薬した後は必ずご褒美をもらえることになっている。もしかするとコレが欲しいから大人しくしているのか？と思えないでもないのだが､､､(笑)

After the eye drops, she always gets a reward. I can’t help but wonder if she is being quiet because she wants this, lol…

与えすぎないように二切れくらいにしている。

I try not to give her too much, just two slices.

確かに右目がほんの少しだけど白っぽいかな。

It is true that her right eye is whitish, but only a little.

角度によっては白く見えなかったりもするのだが。こなつの様子からは目が見えにくいようには思えないし、このまま白内障が進まないことを願う。目薬が効いてるといいねえ。

It may not look white depending on the angle. From the way Konatsu looks, it doesn’t seem as if she has difficulty seeing, and I hope the cataract doesn’t continue to develop. I hope the eye drops are working.

12月に入り夕方の散歩の時間は辺りが暗くなり、黒毛のこなつは目立ちにくいのでいろんな事故の心配がある。だから散歩用にこんなのを買ってみた。

In December, it gets darker around the time of evening walks, and Konatsu’s black hair makes her hard to be seen, so there are concerns about various accidents. So I bought one like this for walking.

首に掛けて光らせるもので､､､

光る部分をハサミで切ってサイズを調整できるのが上手くできている。

The size can be adjusted by cutting the glowing part with scissors.

電気を消して暗くしてみるとこんな感じ。

更に真っ暗にするとこうなる。これなら目立つし、車や自転車からも認識されるね。

And when it is completely dark, it looks like this. It stands out and can be recognized by cars and bicycles.

些細なことだけど、これで散歩が楽しくなるかも。

It’s a small thing, but it might make my walk more enjoyable.

ママの整体治療が朝早い時間だったので終わったあとすぐ傍のパン屋「モンペシェミニョン」のテラス席でこなつと一緒に朝ご飯です。

My wife’s physical therapy treatment was early in the morning, so afterwards we had breakfast with Konatsu on the terrace of a nearby bakery, Mont Peche Mignon.

こなつはオスワリして何をしてるのかと言うと､､､

Konatsu was in a state of undress, and what was she doing?

店内でパンを買っているママの姿が目の前に見えているので、それを目で追っているのです。

She can see my wife buying bread in front of her, so she is following it with her eyes.

そのときママも店内から写していた。

My wife also took a picture of Konatsu from inside the bakery.

我々のとは別に、こなつ用のミルクパンも買ってあり

She had also bought a milk bread for Konatsu, in addition to ours.

これ全部をあげるのではないけれど､､､

I don’t mean to give all of them to Konatsu, but…

「少しだけね」と言いつつこれを4～5回くらい繰り返す.

I repeat this 4 or 5 times, saying, “Just a little bit”.

帰ったら歯磨きしようね！(笑)

2ヶ月くらい前に私がこなつのカットをしてみたんだけど毛が伸びてきたら不揃いさが目立つようになってきた。↓

I tried to cut Konatsu’s body hair about 2 months ago, but when the hair grew longer, the unevenness became more noticeable. ↓

なので今回はプロのトリマーさんにやってもらうことにした。こなつの通っている動物病院にはトリマーのお姉さんもいるので専門店でやるより多分安い。

So this time, I decided to have Konatsu’s hair trimmed at her veterinary clinic. It is probably cheaper than at other trimming stores.

お腹周り、背中、お尻、尻尾、短くなってスッキリしました。

Her belly, back, buttocks, and tail are now shorter and cleaner.

13歳まであと4ヶ月。目標まではまだ7年もあるけどここまでは元気にこれた。体重は先月より200g減り現在18.7kg、今のところ体調に問題なし！

Konatsu has 4 months to go until she turns 13 years old. She still has seven years to go until her goal of turning 20, but she has come this far in good health. Weighed 200g less than last month, now 18.7kg, no physical problems so far!

この日はママとこなつと一緒に娘のマンションに行ってきた。

Last Sunday I went to my daughter’s apartment with my wife and Konatsu.

こなつは抱っこされたまま部屋に向かって行く。ここは抱っこできる程度の小型犬なら飼っても良い規則。だからこなつはデカくて重たいけどこうして部屋に行くしかないのだ。

Konatsu goes to her room with her in her arms. The rule here is that you can have a dog as long as it is small enough to be carried in your arms. So Konatsu is big and heavy, but we have no choice but to go to her room like this.

この状態で3Fまで行ったのです。

We went to the third floor like this.

そして到着！　今日は粗大ゴミを出す手伝いをすることになっていて､､､

I was asked to help take out the oversize garbage today, and…

手伝いはすぐに完了。

The help was quick and easy.

こなつは何だか嬉しそうだね。

Konatsu looks kind of happy.

極めつけはコレだ！(笑)　このあとどこかで昼ご飯を食べようということになり、検索したらこの近所にドッグカフェがあったので、そこへ行ってみることにした。

And here’s the best photo! (lol) We talked about having lunch somewhere after this, and decided to go to a dog café we found in this neighborhood.

日曜日の午前中のひとときでした。

It was a nice moment on a Sunday morning.

ママが内科で診察を受けている間、こなつと1時間ほど北鎌倉の裏道を散歩していました。

While my wife was being examined by a physician, Konatsu and I took an hour-long walk along the back roads of Kitakamakura.

北鎌倉のメインの通りから梶原方面に向かっていく道ですが、車ではときどき通るけれど歩くのは初めてなので普段見過ごしている物が目に入ってくる。

It is a path from the main street of Kitakamakura toward Kajiwara, and although I sometimes pass by it by car, it was the first time for me to walk there, so I saw things that I usually overlook.

この辺りは道は狭いし、ちょっと広くなると道の真ん中に桜の木があったりして運転するのには嬉しくない道だけど歩いてみると静かで良い所に思えてくる。

The road is narrow in this area, and when it gets a little wider, there is a cherry blossom tree in the middle of the road, which is not a pleasant road to drive on, but when Iseems like a nice and quiet place.

こんな静かな場所だからこなつには嬉しいようで、軽やかに歩いていた。

Konatsu seemed to be happy to be in such a quiet place and walked lightly.

やがて上り坂になり､､､

Gradually, we started to go uphill…

葛原岡神社に向かう脇道が見えてくる。更にその先は銭洗弁財天へと続く道です。

A side road leading to Kuzuharaoka Shrine comes into view. Further ahead is the road leading to Zeniarai-benzaiten shrine.

神社のすぐ手前まで来たが、これ以上進むと戻るのに時間が足りなくなりそうなのでここで引き返すことにした。

We came to just before the shrine, but decided to turn back here, as we would not have enough time to return if we went any further.

車に戻って歩数計のアプリを開いてみた。1時間弱歩いた割には5000歩かぁ､､､とちょっとガッカリ(笑)

Back in the car, I opened my pedometer app and was a little disappointed to see that I had only walked 5,000 steps in less than an hour (lol).

朝の散歩は家を5時半過ぎに出ていくのだが、1か月前と比べてもその時間は随分暗くなった。

I leave the house for Konatsu’s morning walk a little after 5:30 a.m. It is much darker at that time than it was a month ago.

富士山がピンク色に染まって見えるのはこの時間だけ。ほんの10分間くらい。

This is the only time that Mt. Fuji appears pinkish. It is only for about 10 minutes.

昨日、今日のこの時間の気温は10℃くらい。だんだん冬が近づいてきたね。

Yesterday and today, the temperature at this time was about 10 degrees Celsius. Winter is gradually approaching.

今日はこなつの歯石取りを予約してある日だ。午後に動物病院に向かった。

Today is the day I made an appointment to have Konatsu’s tartar removed. I headed to the veterinary clinic in the afternoon.

アタシここは好きじゃないんですけど､､､　となかなか入って行こうとしない。

She was not very eager to go in, saying, “I don’t like this place….

いつもは先生がハンドスケーラーで歯石を取ってくれるのだが、今日は治療を始めたら先生が私を呼びに来て「今回は歯石が沢山付きすぎているので超音波スケーラーを使います。無麻酔で出来ますよ。」と説明された。

Usually, the doctor removes the tartar with a hand scaler, but today, when the treatment started, the doctor came to call me and said, “There is too much tartar this time, so I will use an ultrasonic scaler. It can be done without anesthesia.” He explained to me .

これは終了後の写真。歯はキレイになったけど、歯石がビッシリ付着していたせいで歯茎が腫れているのが分かる。しばらくは歯磨きと歯茎のマッサージしないとね。

This is a picture after the treatment. Konatsu’s teeth are now clean, but you can see that her gums are swollen because of the tartar. I will have to brush her teeth and massage her gums for a while.

最近ご無沙汰してたのでドッグデプト江ノ島店に行ってみた。

We went to Dog Dept Enoshima because it had been a while recently.

こなつはここに来ると美味しいものを食べられると解っているのか足取りも軽く自ら店に入っていく。

Konatsu, knowing that she can enjoy delicious food here, walked lightly into the store by herself.

でも食べる前に、こなつの旅行用の服を探そう！

Before we eat, let’s find some clothes for Konatsu’s trip!

で、1枚買ってきました。

So I bought one.

そのあとは、こなつお待ちかねのランチタイム。

After that, it was time for Konatsu’s long-awaited lunch.

早めの時間だったのでカフェスペースはガラガラ。けどこの後あっという間に満席になった。

At this time it was still before noon, so the café space was empty. But it quickly filled up after that.

いま着ているのはこなつの普段着。

こなつが廊下で寛いでいる。そろそろ昼ご飯の時間だ。

娘が山形のラーメンを持ってきてくれたので、これを作ることにした。

My daughter brought us some ramen from Yamagata, so I decide to make this.

最後に辛みそを盛り付けて完成！　麺はかなり太目でコシがある。

Finally, a bowl of spicy miso is added to complete the dish!　The noodles are quite thick and firm.

「アタシのは？」とこなつが近寄ってきた。

Konatsu asked, “Where’s mine?” She came closer.

これは十分予想できたことなので、こなつの分もゆで卵を用意してあり､､､

I knew this was to be expected, so I had prepared a boiled egg for Konatsu, and…

どうってことないいつもの事ではあるけど、こなつが居ればこその笑いが出るひととき。

It’s a normal, ordinary thing, but it’s a moment when we can laugh because Konatsu is a part of our family.

昼ご飯の後に軽く甘いものをと用意をしていた。

After lunch, I was preparing a Japanese style dessert, and…

いつの間にかこなつが私の横の椅子の上にきてお菓子を見つめていた。

Before I knew it, Konatsu was on the chair beside me, staring at the sweets.

仕方ないのでこなつ用のオヤツを用意したがイマイチ浮かない顔してる。

I had no choice but to prepare some treats for Konatsu, but she didn’t look happy.

アタシが欲しいのはそっちなの！と手が伸びてきて､､､

I want that one! And Konatsu’s hand reached out to me…

結局は我々の分も少しずつもらって満足するのでした。

In the end, she was satisfied with a little bit of our dessert.

今日は老人介護施設に入居している母の年1回の健康診断の日で、こなつとママと私とで検診の付き添いに行ってきた。

Today was the day of my mother’s annual physical examination, who lives in a nursing home for the elderly, and Konatsu, my wife, and I went to accompany her for the checkup.

これは出かける前、「どこに行くの？」と言ってるみたい。

Before we left, “Where are we going?” It’s like saying

こなつのテンションが徐々に高まってきて｡｡｡

到着！ここが母が入居している七里ヶ浜ホーム。

Here we are! This is the Shichirigahama nursing home where my mother lives.

オミクロン株が広まってから面会が中断になっていたのでこんな機会じゃないと会うことが出来ない。今日は8ヶ月ぶりの対面だ。

Since the Omicron variant has spread, visits have been suspended, so we can’t see her unless we have an opportunity like this. Today is the first time I’ve seen her in eight months.

ここの敷地内に聖テレジア病院があり、そこで健康診断が行われる。1時間もかからず全ての検診が終わり、ここからがこなつの癒し犬のお仕事です。

There is St. Theresa’s Hospital on the premises of this home, where the medical checkups are held, and after less than an hour, all the checkups are done, and here is Konatsu’s healing dog work.

今日の母は健康診断のときには反応が鈍く我々が話しかけても殆ど返事をしなかったのだが、こなつに向かっては「なっちゃん！」と自分から声を発したりして､､､

Today, my mother was not very responsive during the checkup and hardly answered when we spoke to her, but when Konatsu appeared, she suddenly called out, “Konatsu! “

最後の方は自分からこなつのリードを握って放そうとしなかった。やっぱりワンコは凄い癒し力を持っているんだなと感心した。

Finally, she grabbed Konatsu’s leash and would not let go. I was impressed by the healing power of dogs.

最近どこにも出かけてないので今日も夕方の散歩の話。

I haven’t been out anywhere recently, so I’m going to talk about my evening walk again today.

今日は昼間がとっても暑かったので、夕方の散歩は道路の熱が下がるのを待って出かけた。こなつは暑いのが苦手だし歳も歳だから我々はそういうことには要注意なのです。

It was very hot during the day today, so we waited until the heat on the road had cooled down before going out for our evening walk. Konatsu doesn’t like the heat, and she is also old, so we have to be careful about such things.

今日のこなつは速足で軽快に歩き始めた。

Today, Konatsu started walking at a brisk pace.

途中ちょっと立ち寄ったフー太家で、パパさんに撫でられてこなつはご機嫌！

On the way, we stopped by Futa’s house. Konatsu was in a good mood after being petted by Futa’s dad!

フー太家を出て歩き始めたらベルちゃんに会った。こなつとベルちゃんも仲良しなのです。

When we left Futa’s house and started walking, we met Belle. Konatsu and Belle are good friends.

今日はこのあとラグビーの日本対オーストラリアの試合のTV中継があるので散歩はこれでお終い。

Today’s walk is over as the rugby match between Japan and Australia will be broadcast on TV later today.
