法要で岡崎まで

私の妹のご主人が昨年亡くなり、その一周忌で岡崎まで行ってきた。こなつを置いて行く訳にもいかず一緒に車に乗せて出掛けた。

My sister’s husband passed away last year and we went to Okazaki for the first anniversary of his death. We couldn’t leave Konatsu behind, so we drove out together.

東名高速の御殿場の手前で５台の玉突き事故があり、当初は2km5分の渋滞と表示されたのだが全く進まず、実際には7kmの渋滞で抜けるのに1時間かかった。これで間に合うの？という感じだったが何とか岡崎のお寺に到着。

There was a five-car pileup on the Tomei Expressway just before Gotemba, and the traffic jam was initially indicated as 2km/5minutes, but it never moved, and in fact it was 7km long and took us an hour to get through. We were worried that we would not make it in time, but somehow we made it and arrived at the temple in Okazaki.

そして無事に一周忌の法要が終わり、そのまま鎌倉まで帰るのも大変なのでその日は天城高原の東急ハーベストに泊まることにした。到着は夜になったのでその日は部屋で夕飯を済ませ、後は寝るだけ。

After the memorial service, we decided to stay the night at Tokyu Harvest in Amagi Kogen, because it would have been difficult to go back to Kamakura. Since we arrived at night, we just had dinner in our room and went to bed.

これは翌朝の散歩ですが、ここは標高1000m近くあるのでとても寒く､､､

This is Konatsu’s walk the next morning. It was very cold here at an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters.

施設内のテニスコートも一面真っ白でこんな状態だった。

The tennis court in the facility was completely white and in this condition.

この日は何もせず夕方までゆっくり過ごして､､､

We did nothing that day, and spent the rest of the evening relaxing.

ここは伊豆半島の真ん中に位置していて、今が見頃の河津桜の河津まで近いので明日はそれを見てから帰ろうと思っている。

This place is located in the middle of Izu Peninsula, close to Kawazu, where the Kawazu cherry blossoms are at their best right now. Tomorrow, I plan to go see them and then return home.

今日のお散歩コース

だんだん日が長くなってきて夕方の散歩に出る時間も遅くなった。今日は4時半に出発。

The days are getting longer and it is getting later to go out for an evening walk. Today I left at 4:30 pm.

少し歩いたらお友達の姿が見えた！

After a short walk, I saw Konatsu’s friend’s dog!

マー君でした。

It was Maron.　He is 6 years old.

マー君は散歩が終わって帰ってきたところだったので今日は一緒には歩けない。

Maron had just returned home after his walk, so we couldn’t walk with him today. Too bad for Konatsu!

龍口明神社の前を通って住宅街の奥の方に向かって歩いてゆく。

We walked past the Ryukoumyo Shrine toward the back of the residential area.

一番奥まで来ると広町の森の端に出る。地図で見るとここから七里ヶ浜の海岸まで直線でたったの800mなのだ。

At the far end, we reached the edge of the Hiromachi forest. The map shows that it is only 800 meters straight from here to the shore of Shichirigahama.

森を越えて歩いて行くと30分以上はかかるのです。

It would take more than 30 minutes to walk across the forest.

さて、散歩の続き。今度はここから鎌倉山を途中まで登ってみよう。

Now, we continue our walk. Now let’s climb Mt. Kamakura from here to the halfway point.

高齢ワンコのこなつだけれど、このくらいの階段はまだ大丈夫！

３日目、気温はさらに下がり､､､

朝起きると窓の外は雪が舞っているし､､､

Day 3
When I woke up in the morning, there was snow flying outside the window.

更には御影用水はスケートリンクみたいになっていた。

and furthermore, the river looked like a skating rink.

今朝の気温は－10℃。完全防寒して散歩に行こう！

The temperature this morning was -10℃. Let’s go for a walk, fully protected against the cold!

こなつにも厚手の洋服を持ってきて良かった。そろそろ寒さにも弱くなってくる年齢だろうし

I brought some heavy clothes for Konatsu, as she is getting to be vulnerable to the cold due to her age.

鎌倉ではお目にかかれない風景。これでもっと雪が積もっていたら北欧みたいじゃない？

This is a scene you don’t see in my hometown of Kamakura. If there was more snow on the ground with this, it would look like Scandinavia, wouldn’t it?

今回の旅行はこなつママが日常の家事から解放され何もしないでのんびり出来るのが嬉しいみたいだから、殆ど観光もせず部屋でゆっくり過ごしている。ただ、ちょっと買い物などに車で出かけたときに困ったことがあった。日中も気温が氷点下なのでウォッシャー液が凍っていて出ない。泥水を被った時など飲み水で洗わないとならない。次からは不凍液を入れよう。

My wife seems to be happy to be free from her daily chores and to be able to relax and do nothing, so she is spending most of the time in the room without doing any sightseeing. However, I had a problem when I drove out for a bit of shopping, etc. The temperature is below freezing even during the daytime, so the washer fluid is frozen and won’t come out. When the car was covered with muddy water, I had to wash it with drinking waterI Next time, I will put in antifreeze washer fluid.

Let’s go to dinner on the last day! Konatsu brought a lot of clothes this time.

フレンチが三日続くけど、ここのは美味しいから飽きない。

French food lasts three days, but I never get tired of it because it’s so good here.

私とこなつママはレジーナの中でも特にここのスタッフの皆さんの気遣いやワンコの扱い方に慣れてる感じが気に入っている。

My wife and I especially like the staff here in Regina for their care and the way they treat the dogs.

三泊四日の滞在が終わり、これが最後の朝の散歩。また来たいねえ､､､

After three nights and four days, this was our last morning walk. I want to come back again…

レジーナのすぐ近くにベーカリー＆レストランKOOがオープンし、雑誌などでも紹介され評判が良いらしい。ここでパンをお土産に買って帰ることにした。

A bakery and restaurant, KOO, opened near Regina, and I heard that it has been introduced in magazines and has a good reputation. I decided to buy some bread as a souvenir.

２日目、またまた寒気の影響が

天気予報によれば寒気の影響で明日から寒くなるらしい。

Day 2
According to the weather forecast, it will be cold tomorrow due to the cold air.

でも今朝も十分寒い。この時間7:00くらいだが気温はマイナス6℃。

But it is cold enough this morning. It is about 7:00 this time of day, and the temperature is -6 degrees Celsius.

散歩が終わる頃にはちょうどいい具合にお腹が空いてきたのでレストランに向かう。

真冬の軽井沢へ行ってみる

今週月曜日から軽井沢に行き、本日帰宅。真冬の軽井沢は安くなるしね

I went to Karuizawa in the middle of winter. Karuizawa is essentially a summer resort, so it is cold in winter, but the cost of lodging is lower.

群馬に仕事に行くときと同じルートだけど圏央道を北に向かって走っている。

I took the same route as when I go to work in Gunma, driving north on the Ken-O Expressway.

相模原を過ぎた辺りで渋滞表示が現れた。どうやら事故が起きたらしいがまだまだ渋滞は伸びそうな気配｡｡｡

A traffic jam sign appeared just past Sagamihara. Apparently there was a traffic accident, but the traffic jam seemed to be getting longer.

八王子ジャンクションで、真っすぐ進むべきか中央道に回避すべきか。一瞬迷ったが中央道に向かうことにした。

At the Hachioji Junction, we wondered whether we should continue straight ahead or take the Chuo Highway. I was lost for a moment, but decided to take the Chuo Highway.

中央道を長坂ICで降りて、清里を通って佐久に出るコース。途中、野辺山の辺りはこんな雪景色。

We got off the Chuo Highway at Nagasaka IC and headed for Saku via Kiyosato. On the way, the area around Nobeyama was covered with snow.

更に進むとホワイトアウトしそうになってきたが、そうはならずに済んだ。

As we continued on, it looked like it was going to be a whiteout, but it didn’t turn out that way.

中部横断自動車道の佐久南ICで降りて、道の駅ホットパークに寄り道。

We got off at the Saku Minami IC of the Chubu Cross-Island Highway and stopped at roadside station Hot Park.

ワタシは降りたくありません、って顔してるけど歳会えずオシッコだけ済ませよう。

Konatsu looked like she didn’t want to get off the car.

ここは小さな道の駅ですがこの地方ならではのモノをいろいろ売っていて､､､

This is a small roadside station, but they sell a variety of local products…

中でもこの凍み豆腐。今では機械化され、手作りの凍み豆腐を作っているのはこの地方で4軒だけで、機械では作れない美味しさだそう。ゲットしました！

Among them is this frozen tofu. It is said that only four shops in Japan make handmade frozen tofu, and that the taste is so good that no machine can make it. I got it!

そこから30分で軽井沢に到着。今回もレジーナリゾート御影用水に泊まります。

From there, we arrived in Karuizawa in 30 minutes. Again, we will stay at Regina Resort Mikageyousui.

今回も信州割のお世話になります！　到着が遅くなったから一休みしたらすぐ夕飯だ。

Once again, we’re getting the Shinshu Discount!　Since we arrived late, we’ll have dinner right after we take a break.

こなつは抜け毛の季節だから毛を撒き散らさないように洋服を着てレストランへ。

Konatsu is in the season of hair loss, so we put on clothes and went to the restaurant so as not to scatter the hair.

ワクチンといえば

最近はワクチンと言うとコロナワクチンを思い浮かべるけれど、先週こなつのパルボウィルスワクチン接種に行ってきた。

These days when I think of vaccines, I think of the COVID-19 vaccine, but last week I went to Konatsu’s parvovirus vaccination.

相変わらず病院に入った途端ガタガタブルブルとこなつの身体が震え出し、周囲の人にも「あらあら､､､」と言われてしまう始末だが無事ワクチン接種終了。

As usual, as soon as we entered the hospital, Konatsu’s body started shaking and the people around us laughed at us, but the vaccination was successfully completed.

家に帰ってきたらワクチンの事なんか忘れたかのようにオモチャをピポピポ鳴らしてドヤ顔してる。

When we got home, she was beeping her toys as if she had forgotten about the vaccine.

13歳目前の老犬とは思えない遊びっぷりである。
我が家は先代犬を13歳3ヶ月で亡くしているから先ずはそれをクリアして、その次の目標は15歳くらい、そして最後は出来ることなら20歳まで生きて欲しいと思っている。そのためには体調管理をしっかりやらないとならないのだが、病院でこなつの体重を計ったら19.5kgあり、年末より1kg近く増えてしまった。オヤツを減らそう！

It is hard to believe that she is an old dog who is about to turn 13 years old.
We lost our previous dog at the age of 13 years and 3 months, so we want her to live to be 15 years old first, and then 20 years old if possible. In order to achieve this goal, we need to take good care of Konatsu’s physical condition, but when I weighed her at the hospital, she weighed 19.5 kg, which is almost 1 kg more than she weighed at the end of the year. We need to cut down on the snacks!

大雪注意報に翻弄されている

関東地方が大雪になりそうと昨日からニュースが報じている。そんな中、私は昨日から群馬に仕事に来ているのですが、朝9時の時点ではまだ雪の気配はない。

The news has been reporting since yesterday that the Kanto region is about to experience heavy snowfall. Such is the case, but I have been in Gunma for work since yesterday, and as of 9:00 a.m., there is still no sign of snow.

まもなく雪が降り始め、一気に積もりそうな感じになってきた。

Soon it will start snowing and it looks like it will pile up all at once.

天気予報によるとこれからますます激しく降りそうだし、高速道路の情報をみると雪による様々な規制や通行止めが出始めている。このまま夕方まで仕事すると私は家に帰れなくなる恐れがあり、それを心配した院長が私の夕方の仕事をキャンセルしてくれた。

According to the weather forecast, it looks like it is going to snow more and more heavily, and looking at the information on the highways, various restrictions and road closures due to snow are starting to appear. If I continued to work until the evening, I might not be able to go home, and the director, worried about that, cancelled my evening work.

そんな訳で昼過ぎには仕事を終え、これは上信越道を走っているところ。

So I finished work in the afternoon, and this is where I was driving on the Joshin-Etsu Highway.

標高の高い八王子まではけっこう降ったけれど、高尾山を過ぎたら雪は雨に変わり、これなら最後まで仕事しても良かったなあという感じ。

It snowed quite a bit up to Hachioji, which is at a high elevation, but onIce I passed Mt. Takao, the snow turned to rain, and I felt like I could have worked until the end.

家に着いてこなつのお出迎えを受ける、これが嬉しい瞬間！　こなつはちょうど夕方の散歩に出かけるところだ。

I was happy to be greeted by Konatsu when I arrived home.　Konatsu was just about to go for an evening walk.

こっち方面は雨だからレインコート着て、行ってらっしゃ～い！

寒い日が続くけれどこなつは元気

2月に入りました。私の仕事が1月末で決算を迎えたため何かと忙しくブログの更新が出来ませんがこなつは変わりなく元気にしています。

February has arrived. My business closes at the end of January every year, so I have been too busy to update this blog, but Konatsu is doing well as usual.

よ～く見るとこなつの冬毛が伸びてボサボサ。今週末にシャンプー＆カットしてもらうよう予約をしておいた。

If you look closely, you can see that Konatsu’s winter hair has grown long and shaggy. I made an appointment to have her shampooed and cut this weekend.

散歩の途中に気が付いたのだが近所の肉屋にちょっとした変化が見られる。

While walking Konatsu, I noticed a slight change in the neighborhood butcher shop.

つい先日までこの肉屋が売ってるのは宮崎牛だったのに､､､　　↑

Just a few days ago, this butcher shop was selling Miyazaki beef…

いつの間にか山形牛に変わっていた。しかも入り口の看板の店名が「西鎌倉精肉店」になっている。何があったんだろうね､､､？　安いことに変わりはないようだが。こなつ用の安い肉を少し買って帰ってきた。

But before I knew it, it had changed to Yamagata beef. Moreover, the name on the signboard at the entrance has changed to “Nishikamakura Butcher Shop”. I wonder what happened to it…?　It seems that the price is still the same, though. I bought some cheap meat for Konatsu and returned home.

今週の後半は関東地方も雪予報になっている。最近は降ると言いつつ降らないというパターンだけど今週はどうなるだろう？　雪と言えば、こなつの動画を見ていたら5年前の雪遊びのを見つけたので貼り付けてみます。このときこなつは7歳、元気に走り回っているけど今はもう無理。

Snow is predicted for the Kanto region in the latter half of this week. It’s been a pattern lately of saying it’s going to snow but it doesn’t, but what will happen this week?　Speaking of snow, I found a video of Konatsu playing in the snow five years ago. Konatsu was 7 years old at that time, running around energetically, but she can’t do it anymore.

歯磨きしよう

気持ち良さそうに休んでいるところ申し訳ないけど、ちょっと歯を見せてね｡｡｡

I’m sorry to interrupt your comfortable rest, but let me see your teeth for a second.

先月動物病院で歯石取りしたときに指摘されたんだけど、こなつな年齢なりに歯周病が進行して僅かに歯の動揺も見られるとのこと。今はまだそれほど歯石は付着してないけど歯磨きすることは大切！

When I took her to the veterinary clinic last month for a tartar removal, they pointed out that her periodontal disease had progressed to the point where her teeth were slightly shaking, in keeping with her age. She doesn’t have much tartar on her teeth yet, but it’s important to brush her teeth!

しばらく歯磨きをサボっていたのでこれを買ってきた。

I bought this for Konatsu since I haven’t brushed her teeth for a while.

こなつは歯磨きや目薬など、イヤな事だと分かっていても大人しくそれに応じる。これはこなつのとても良いところだ。

Konatsu will comply with brushing her teeth and applying eye drops even when she knows it’s something she doesn’t want to do. This is a very good thing about Konatsu.

肉の日ということで

今日、29日は近所の肉屋で肉の日セールをやっている。

Today is the 29th. In Japanese, 29 has the same meaning as meat. So the butcher in my neighborhood is having a meat bargain today.

この日は毎回買い物客が殺到して駐車場に入るのに苦労するので今日は店まで歩いて行くことにした。

Every time on this day, there is a rush of shoppers and it is hard to get into the parking lot, so I decided to walk to the store today.

坂の途中から店の駐車場を見ると、やっぱりね、満車だ。

When I looked at the parking lot from the middle of the hill, I knew it was full.

右側が肉の直売店で、左側は焼き肉店になっている。

On the right side is a factory-direct meat store, and on the left side is a barbecue restaurant.

ママが買い物してる間、私とこなつは店の外で待機している。

While my wife shops, I and Konatsu wait outside the store.

ママがこなつの肉も買ってるということを分かっているのだろうか､､､？
物欲しげなオスワリ。

I wonder if Konatsu knows that my wife is also buying Konatsu’s meat.　
She looks as if she expects it.

高速道路のサービスエリア

かなり以前から、日本に来た外国の人達が「日本の高速のサービスエリアは楽しい」とか「テーマパークみたいだ」と言ってるらしい。このブログは半数近くが海外からのアクセスだから、今日私が行ったサービスエリア（以下SA）をご紹介してみようと思う。

For several years now, I have heard that foreign visitors to Japan have been saying that service areas on Japanese highways are fun or that they are like theme parks. Since nearly half of this blog is accessed from overseas, I thought I would introduce the service area (SA) I visited today.

私は毎月群馬に仕事に行くときに関越自動車道を走っている。その途中､､､

I drive on the Kan-etsu Expressway every month when I go to Gunma for work. On the way there, …

ここは埼玉県と群馬県の県境にある上里SA、ここで休憩することにした。

This is Kamisato SA, located on the border of Saitama and Gunma prefectures, where I decided to take a break.

平日の午前９時頃だが結構混んでいる。

It was around 9:00 a.m. on a weekday, but it was quite crowded. I guessed there were about half commercial vehicles and half tourists.

最近はあちこちのSAでスタバを見かける。が、ここは素通りして先ずはトイレ。

Recently, I have seen Starbucks at many SAs. However, I passed by this place and went to the restroom first.

内部は写せないけどいつも清掃員が掃除していて清潔だし、当然ウォシュレットが完備されている。そういうところも海外の人には魅力的なんだろうね。

I can’t take a picture of the inside, but the toilets are always cleaned by cleaners and of course equipped with electronic toilet. I guess that kind of thing is attractive to people from overseas.

この日は２台のキッチンカーが営業中。手前が焼きそば、奥のはホットドッグ。

On this day, two food trucks were in operation. The one in front is yakisoba noodles and the one in the back is various hot dogs.

広いフードコートがあって、ラーメン、うどん、かつ丼などファーストフード系の店が7店

There is a large food court with 7 shops serving light meals such as ramen, udon, katsudon (pork cutlet served on top of rice), etc.

デザートもあれこれ充実している。

There is also a wide selection of desserts.

フードコートの隣にはショッピングコーナーがあり、この地方の特産品などのお土産が売られている。

Next to the food court is a shopping area where souvenirs of the region are sold.

その更に奥にはレストランが営業中だけど、この時間には殆どお客さんはいないね。

Further in the back is a restaurant, but at this time of the day, there are hardly any customers there.

ATMに、宝くじ売り場、チケットカウンター。こういうのがあるのも海外のSAでは珍しいのだろうか？

There is a bank ATM, a lottery ticket booth, and a tour ticket counter. Is this kind of thing rare in SAs overseas?

いろいろ見てるうちに、このパン屋のパンとコーヒーが欲しくなり､､､

While I was looking around, I wanted some bread and coffee from this bakery…

車に持ち帰って、オヤツタイム！

I took them back to the car and had a snack!

ガソリンは満タンにしてきたから私には必要ないけど出口付近にガソリンスタンドがある。

There is a gas station near the exit.

無事に目的地に到着し、今日から二日間ここで仕事です。

I arrived safely at my destination and will be working here for two days starting today.

寒くなると言ってるけれど

ここ数日、天気予報では10年に一度の寒波が襲来と呼びかけている。特に今日から寒くなるらしいので今朝はこなつに服を着せて散歩に行ってきた。

For the past few days, the weather forecast has been calling for a once-in-a-decade cold wave. It is said to be especially cold starting today, so this morning I dressed Konatsu and went for a walk.

寒々しい空、雪雲のように見えなくもない。

The sky is cold, and it looks like snow clouds.

犬も歳を取ると寒さに弱くなるらしい。こなつの体毛はアンダーコートがあるからシングルコートの子よりはマシかもしれないけれど、でももう12歳後半だからそれなりに寒さ対策も必要だろう。

It seems that as dogs get older, they become more vulnerable to the cold. Konatsu has an undercoat, so she may be better than single-coated dogs, but she is already in her late twelfth year, so I guess she needs to be prepared for the cold.

もう一つ、歳を感じさせることとして車の乗り降りがある。最近のこなつは若い頃のように軽快にはできなくなってきた。

Another thing that reminds me of her age is getting in and out of the car. Recently, Konatsu is no longer as nimble as she was when she was younger.

これは昔バーニーズのベルンちゃん(アンちゃんの先代犬)が晩年に使っていたものを譲って頂きました。

This auxiliary board was given to me by a friend who used to have a Bernese that he used to have in the last years of his life.

使い始めて数日は躊躇していたけれど、今ではこうして乗り降りしている。

She was hesitant to use it for the first few days, but now she gets in and out of the car like this.

飲み会でのこなつ

予定していた旅行が中止になったので、じゃあ飲み会でもやる？ということになり､､､

Since the planned trip was cancelled, so, we decided to have a drinking party…

ビール・日本酒・ワインがテーブルに並び、これはビールを飲み終え日本酒に移るところ。

Beer, sake, and wine were lined up on the table, and this is when we finished the beer and moved on to the sake.

ワタシも食べたい！とアピールすると､､､

焼いただけの下仁田ネギ。皮1枚を剥いて食べると中はトロトロで旨い。

Shimonita leeks, just grilled. When you peel off the skin and eat it, the inside is tender and delicious.　It’s hard to describe the food from here on out, so you’ll just have to guess from the pictures.

久しぶりに元町まで

今日はこなつママが元町の歯医者に定期検診に行く日なので、私とこなつも一緒に元町まで行き、終わるのを待つ間その界隈を散歩することにした。

Today is the day my wife goes to the dentist’s office in Motomachi for a routine checkup, so Konatsu and I decided to go with her to Motomachi and take a walk around the area while we wait for her to finish.

まだ商店街は開店時間前。ママを下ろして港の見える丘公園に向かった。

It was still before opening time in the shopping arcade. I dropped my wife off and headed for Harbor View Park.

公園内はいくつかのブロックに分かれていて、ここは英国ローズガーデン。今は時期じゃないから残念ながらバラは咲いていません。

The park is divided into several blocks, and this is the English Rose Garden. Unfortunately, the roses are not in bloom because it is not the right time of year.

気温は低いが日差しが強くて、歩いていると暑いくらいに感じられた。

The temperature was low but the sun was strong and it felt hot as we walked around.

ここからは横浜港の眺めが良い。

There is a nice view of Yokohama Harbor from here.

その一角にあるガンダムドック。動くガンダムは健在のようだ。

The Gundam dock is located in one of the corners. The moving Gundam seems to be alive and well.

今年の3月末で公開終了らしいので見たい方はお早めに！

Apparently, it will be closed to the public at the end of March this year, so if you want to see it, be quick!

こなつには興味無さそうな場所だね。こうしているうちにママの治療が終わり、合流して場所を移動。

This place doesn’t seem to interest Konatsu. Meanwhile, my wife’s treatment was finished, and we joined her and moved to a new location.

行ってみたら1Fの軽食の方は満席で何人か待っていたので、じゃあ2Fに行ってしっかり食べちゃいましょう！　ということで､､､

When we got there, the first floor restaurant was full and there were a few people waiting, so let’s go to the second floor and have a good meal!　So…

こっちは一組しかお客が居なかった。

There was only one customer here.

結局、満腹になるほど食べてしまいました(笑)

In the end, we ate so much that we were full, lol.

もう夕飯は食べられない！と言いながらもまだメニューを見ているママ｡｡｡

I don’t even need dinner tonight! she said. But my wife is still looking at the menu….

たまには街中に出かけてみるのも良いもんだ。

It’s good to go out in the city once in a while.

＜番外編＞ こんな国からもアクセスがある！

以前、このブログへのアクセス数の多い国の上位をご紹介したことがありしたが、今日はアクセス数の少ない国を見てみます。このブログ（Ver.3）を始めてから2年半が経過して、その間に97ヶ国からのアクセスがありました。下の表の20ヶ国はこの2年半の間に1人だけ見に来てくれたという事が分かります。

I have previously presented the top countries with the most access to this blog, and today I will look at the countries with the least access. Two and a half years have passed since I started this blog (Ver. 3), and in that time I have had access from 97 countries. The 20 countries in the table below shows that only one person came to see this blog during these two and a half years.

ところで、現在世界に国の数はいくつあるのか知らないので調べてみたら､､､
現時点で日本が承認している国の数は195ヶ国だった。そして日本が承認していない国が3つあり、北朝鮮・パレスチナ・台湾。その中で台湾はやや意外な感じがするが外務省のサイトによると、日本は中国への配慮から政府間の公式接触は控えているが台湾に承認の「国家」があるという前提で各種の実務を処理しているのだそうである。

The number of countries approved by Japan at this time was 195. And there are three countries that Japan does not recognize: North Korea, Palestine, and Taiwan. お札を納めに八幡宮まで

正月が明けた頃に、以前両親が生活していた1Fの部屋を片付けていたら鶴岡八幡宮のお札が見つかった。多分10年以上経過しているから薄汚れている。

Around the beginning of the New Year, when I was cleaning up the room on the first floor where my parents used to live, I found an Ofuda from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. It was probably more than 10 years old, so it was dirty.
※Ofuda is supposed to ward off bad luck

このまま捨てるわけにもいかず八幡宮に納めに行こうということになった。

We could not just throw it away, so we decided to return it to Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine.

さて、ワンコはどこまで入って良いのか､､､　調べてみると奥の階段の前までは行っても良いらしい。だが、今日は平日だけどけっこう混んでいるのですぐそこに見える太鼓橋の手前までにして私とこなつママが交代で入ることにした。

I wondered how far dogs are allowed to go in the park, and found out that they are allowed to go as far as the stairs at the back of the park. Even so, it was a weekday today, but it was quite crowded, so we decided to take Konatsu as far as the arched bridge, and my wife and I would take turns going up to the end of the bridge.

ママを待つ間、橋の左側の平家池が見える辺りにいた。ここなら人も少ないし、こなつはビビらずに待っていられる。

While waiting for my wife, we stayed at the left side of the bridge where we could see Heike Pond. There were few people here, and Konatsu could wait without being scared.

ママが戻ってきたので今度は私が行く番。

My wife came back and it was my turn to go.

奥の方に古いお札やお守りを納める場所がある。

There is a place in the back to store old Ofuda (amulet)

八幡宮の八の字が鳩の形をしているのは有名な話だが､､､

It is well known that the figure eight in Hachimangu Shrine is in the shape of a dove…

境内には鳩がたくさんいる。

There are many pigeons, the symbol of Hachimangu Shrine, in the precincts of the shrine.

マー君が6歳になった

こなつの仲良しのお友達のマー君が今月6日で6歳になった。

Konatsu’s good friend Maron turned six years old on the 6th of this month.

上の写真は6年前のマー君だ。マー君はゴールデン・レトニエルという犬種でゴールデンレトリバーとコッカスパニエルのミックスなのです。

The photo above shows Maron, who just came to his current home six years ago. He is a mix of a golden retriever and a cocker spaniel.

上の2枚は5年前。この頃はこなつも若かったからマー君と走り回っていた。

The two pictures above were taken five years ago. Konatsu was young at that time, so she was running around with Maron.

今のこなつはこの調子ですけど｡｡｡

遅まきながら初詣に

我が家の初詣は片瀬の諏訪神社に行くことにしている。三が日は混むので今年は7日に行ってきた。

Our family’s Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the New Year) is to Suwa Shrine in Katase. This year we went on the 7th because it is crowded on the fiert three days of January.

こなつも一緒に行ったのだけど境内には入れないので､､､

Konatsu went with us, but she was not allowed to enter the shrine grounds, so…

一緒に歩けるのはこの辺りまで

we can only walk around here together.

犬の像の所でお留守番する？

Can you stay at the dog statue?

こんな小さな神社だけど1300年もの歴史があるらしい。

This is a small shrine, but it has a history of 1,300 years.

輪くぐりをして、心身を清め息災を祓いましょう。ということで説明書きに従って、左回り、右回りを繰り返しているところ。

Let’s go through the hoop to purify our body and soul and purify our health. So we are following the instructions and repeating the left turn and right turn.

神社に来るとどうしてもおみくじを買いたくなるんです。

When I come to a shrine, I really want to draw an omikuji. (Omikuji is a fortune slip.)

結果は中吉。まあまあ悪くないでしょ。無事に初詣も済ませて帰宅。

There are seven levels of fortune telling, from great blessing to great curse, and I was the third from the top, middle blessing. Not so bad. We finished our Hatsumode without incident and returned home.

この日は七草粥の日でした。これも欠かせない年中行事だから毎年食べている。

It was the day of the seven herbs porridge. By eating the porridge on 7th, we believe that we can get rid of bad luck, and the custom has been passed down from generation to generation.

三が日は終わったけれど､､､

楽しみにしていた割には何をするでもなくお正月は過ぎ去っていく。友人が遊びに来たり、娘が来たり、普段より賑やかでこなつが楽しそうだったのが良かったと言えるのかな。

For all the fun I had been looking forward to, New Year’s Days passed by without me doing anything. It was a good thing that Konatsu seemed to be having more fun than usual, with friends coming to visit and my daughter coming to visit.

そして昨日、娘と二人がかりでこなつの毛のトリミングをしてみた。プロのトリマーさんがやるように上手くは出来ないけれど、それなりにスッキリとカットできたようにも思う。ところで、今年のお正月は買ってきた御節とこなつママが作った御節とたくさんあったので三が日が過ぎてもまだ沢山残っている。

Yesterday, my daughter and I trimmed Konatsu’s hair. We couldn’t do it as well as a professional trimmer, but I think we got a reasonably clean cut. By the way, this New Year’s Day, we had a lot of GosetsusHI that we bought and my wife made, so there is still a lot of Osechi left after the three days of the New Year.

残ったお刺身は昆布締めにして食べたが、昆布の旨味が浸み込んでこれまたイイ感じ。

I ate the leftover sashimi by kombu-sandwiched flounder sashimi , which is also good because the flavor of the kombu soaks into the sashimi!

煮物もまだまだ沢山ある。

There are still a lot of simmered dishes.

まだまだこんなもんじゃない｡｡｡

特にお正月感がある訳ではないが、おでん

It is not particularly New Year’s feeling, but oden

玉子料理あれこれに栗きんとん。まだまだ終わりじゃない､､､

egg dishes, and chestnut kinton (sweetened sweetened chestnuts).

最後は日替わりのお雑煮。初日の御節の他にこんなに料理があったら、そりゃなかなか食べきれないよなぁ。

Since there are so many dishes besides the first day’s Osechi, it’s hard to finish all of them, isn’t it?

それでもこなつはママが何かを用意していると、自分も何か貰えるんじゃないかと後ろでオスワリしているのです。

Even so, Konatsu is always looking at my wife when she is preparing something, thinking that she might get something, too.

明けましておめでとうございます

今朝もいつもと同じように朝の散歩に出かけたのですが、家を出た途端に道路は大渋滞していた。

On New Year’s morning, I went out to walk Konatsu as usual, but as soon as I left home, the roads were jammed.

湘南海岸は初日の出を拝みに来るスポットだから県外ナンバーの車がやたらと多い。

Shonan coast is a spot where people come to see the first sunrise of the year, so there are a lot of cars with license plates from outside of the prefecture.

ここはスラムダンクで有名な鎌倉高校駅前の踏切。いつもならここまで5分で来るのに、今日は20分以上かかった。

This is the railroad crossing in front of Kamakura High School Station, famous for the “Slam Dunk” movie. It usually takes me 5 minutes to get here, but today it took me more than 20 minutes.

日の出の時間が迫り、振り返ると富士山がピンク色に染まって見えていた。

As sunrise time approached, I looked back and saw Mt. Fuji turning pink.

日の出を待つ人々が海岸に大勢見える。良く見ると砂浜は人で溢れている。

Many people can be seen on the beach waiting for the sunrise. The beach was full of people.

私もギリギリ日の出に間に合い、この写真が撮れた。

I was just in time to catch the sunrise, and was able to take this photo.

更には、江ノ電の窓の中に上る初日の出が撮れた！

I was also able to take a photo of the first sunrise in the window of the train!

そして、いつもの七里ヶ浜の広場に移動して

Then we moved to the usual park at Shichirigahama…

そして家に戻って、新年祝いの膳。今年も稲村ケ崎「虹」の御節です。

Back at home, we had a New Year’s celebration breakfast “Osechi” “Osechi” are traditional foods which are eaten by a lot of Japanese on New Year’s Day. It includes many kinds of Japanese traditional foods, and they are packed together in “Jubako”, which is a special box that resembles bento boxes.
